Connector Needed To Transfer Light Signals From A Motorhome To A Flat Towed 2005 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Hello, I am looking for a seven pin? female connection that I can install on the front of my 2005 Jeep Wrangler that will allow me to plug in the seven pin male cord from my RV. I would need this connection to then control the brakes, turn signals and possibly power a brake assist unit inside the jeep. I am not sure what to look for and I usually end up with a four pin connection that falls apart, or the parts for if I was towing a trailer instead of towing the Jeep. Thank you for taking the time to direct me towards the correct item.

When flat towing a vehicle you'll need to either a 4-pole connector or 6-pole connector and an adapter cable to run from your towed vehicle to the 7-way on the trailer. I also recommend going with a 6-pole because it give you the ability to add in a charge line to keep the battery charged while you tow.
For a 2005 Jeep Wrangler I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit comes with an adapter cable, 6-pole socket to install at the front of the vehicle, and 4-pole wiring and diodes to connect to the tail light wiring so that your motorhome's traffic signals will display through the Wrangler's tail lights. I've attached a video below where Brad will walk you through the installation process for this kit.
If you haven't picked out the rest of your flat towing components then I have the following recommendations for you:
Baseplate: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521424-5. This baseplate is designed to fit double tube and standard factory bumpers but will not fit models with front leaf springs.
Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e74ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables bracketed to the arms so that you won't have to purchase them separately or worry about them dragging on the ground. The head and shank offer a bit of a adjustablility to help keep the tow bar level without having to also purchase a high/low adapter.
Braking System: Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700. This braking system will install permanently inside your Wrangler to provide proportional braking with no setup required after the initial installation. To install the indicator light for this system you'll need to tap into the brake light switch wire of your Wrangler, which is colored white/tan. You'll most likely also need a Brake Light Relay # RM-88400 to prevent your brake signal from overriding the turn signal.
This system comes with a trickle charger that will recharge the battery if the running lights are on in the motorhome, but you could also just install a standard charge line # RM-156-25 that wouldn't require the lights to be on in the motorhome to charge the towed vehicle battery while driving.
