Installation for Trucks With Pop-Out Rail Caps

pop off rail cap

If you have pop-out rail caps you can install the anchors in seconds. All you have to do is pop the caps off using a flat head screwdriver, insert the anchors into the stake pockets, and tighten them down with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Installation for Trucks Without Pop-Out Rail Caps

Router Bit

If you have truck bed rails with hidden stake pockets that don't have pop-out rail caps, a router and a drill with a 1/2" bit (not included) are required to install the anchors.

Router Bit

The router bit (sold separately) lets you perfectly trim the caps without damaging your truck bed. To install the anchors, drill a 1/2" hole in the center of each rail cap and use the router to make the cuts. The router bit has 4 roller bearings that guide the router around the inner steel pocket to prevent overcutting the surface of your bedrails. Cut around each perimeter several times so that all the plastic residue resulting from the cuts gets trimmed away. Once the caps have been trimmed you can install the anchors.

Router Bit

If you have rear stake pockets with an inner plastic shaft, use a router with the rotary pocket saw bit (sold separately) to remove it.

Video Transcript for Review of BullRing Truck Bed Tie Downs - Raised Fit Retractable Anchor For Stake Pocket - BU63FR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at these bull ring raised fit retractable tie-down anchors for your truck bed stake pockets. Now these heavy duty anchors are going to attach to your truck bed stake pockets and give you tie-down points to secure your load. They're gonna work with S hook and J hook connections. Now these are gonna fit various years and versions of the Ford F series and Rangers, the Dodge Ram pickups, the GMC Sierras, and the Chevrolet Silverados.

To see if these are gonna work for your truck, take advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com and input the year, make and model of your truck. And our fit guide will let you know if these anchors will work for your truck or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now, while the factory anchor points are inside the bed of your truck, they can be hard to reach. These retractable anchor points are going to install into the stake pockets on top of your bedrails. Simply pop the anchor ring up when you want to use it to secure a load.

Then when you're done all you have to do is press it firmly down and it is flush and it's gonna be completely outta your way. So again, let me show you how easy these are to use. You just pull that ring up firmly and you hear that snap. And that means that it is secure in place. It's not gonna accidentally slip down while you're using it.

It's going to hold its position the whole time that you are in need of it. And then when you're finished and you want that ring out of your way, push it down firmly. And it is out of your way. This raised fit is going to sit just above your bedrail. And these anchors have a weight capacity of a thousand pounds.

They are constructed of stainless steel, so they are gonna resist rust and corrosion. And the polished stainless steel plate is really gonna give you a nice classy look for your truck. Now for the most part, installation is gonna be quick and easy and requires nothing more than a Phillips head screwdriver. So you wanna remove any plastic caps that cover the stake pocket. However, on the 2009 and newer Ram trucks the rail cap will need to be trimmed for proper installation. And to make that job a little bit easier, bull ring does have some bits that can help you with that trimming process. And on your screen, I am including our item numbers to their rail cap router bit and their rear pocket saw bit. And to check out those tools, just take those item numbers that you see on your screen and put 'em in the search field of our website here at etrailer.com. And you can find those items on our website in that way. And again, those tools are designed just to make the trimming of the plastic around your stake pockets easier on your 2009 and newer Ram pickup trucks. So when you remove those plastic caps and do any trimming, if that's necessary on your vehicle and you wanna loosen these Phillips head screws with your screwdriver, for our purposes, I went ahead and loosened these screws, and then you're just going to remove them. And that is going to allow this plate and bracket to slide down completely. And this is attached to the bottom of the ring there. It's not gonna go past the bottom of that ring. So you're not gonna have to worry about losing this potentially in your stake pocket. So just by holding this top cover here, you're gonna guide that anchor into the stake pocket at an angle and then pull up on the cover so that the lower bracket can catch on your truck sheet metal. And when it catches, then all you have to do is hold the ring and allow the cover to drop into place. And then you're going to replace your screws. And then you do want to hand tighten them with your screwdriver. You wanna be sure not to over tighten these screws. If the plastic rail cap starts to bend or bow, that means that you have the screws too tight. So you wanna make sure that you don't over tighten them. And then that's gonna be it for installation and they're gonna be ready to go for you. And you are going to get four tie down anchors and these do have a lifetime warranty. And these are very well built. They feel heavy duty and they feel like they're pretty robust. And I just love the idea that these are gonna be easily accessible. So when you want that ring you just lift up the ring and pull it, pull it firmly. It's gonna pop up for you nice and secure for when you need it. And then when you're done push it down and it's out of your way. And I'm really impressed with these and also the ease of installation as well. So if this meets the specs that you're looking for I think this is gonna be a good set for you to consider. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..
