How To Determine Correct Brake Assemblies For A Tandem 10K Axle Gooseneck Trailer

Question:

I am working on an older gooseneck trailer with tandem 10k lb axels. The previous owner removed the brakes. It appears to have disc brake brackets on both axels. If I send pictures, can you help me identify the parts I need to install new brakes, either disc or drum. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can absolutely send a couple pictures in, however more importantly you're going to need to know the inside diameter of your hub, and take note of the mounting flange pattern.

Since you already know your axles capacity, that takes one variable away, but you'll need to find the other two values as well in order to get the correct assemblies.

For instance, the Hayes/AL-KO Hydraulic Brake Kit # K23-524-00-2 are for 9,000 to 12,000lbs axles, measure 12-1/4" x 3-1/2" wide, this would be the size of drum that they fit into, have a 5 bolt pattern, and will fit 16" or larger trailer wheels.

If you can get this information I'd be happy to help you out. I've also attached a FAQ to shed some more light onto this for you to check out.
