WestBestCoast but live in winter rain forest. Saw little rust underside of 2004 Matrix. Seeing all the horror stories of unworkable/usable threads... I PB Blaster then stuffed in plugs to keep the fluid from dripping out. Let sit/spray a couple times per week. (where googles when working with chemicals. the pb blaster straw catches and like a rubber band flings out that most likely hazardous chemical). Spun in a tap, in/out/clean in/out clean and did see some debris coming out, about as much as smashed 3 rice grains per hole. Ordered from etrailer, didn't want the delivered no fee shipping in 3 weeks, chose the [upgraded shipping] to get in like 4 days, wow that was fast EastCoast to WestBestCoast during cov19! Email shows Andrew T, Justin R, George J handled my order, Andrew T packaged. Whomever put that tape on should go to work for NASA. All NASA needs is to have Andrew T tape together the rockets, no need for expensive engineered systems, just need Andrew T and a roll of tape LOL! It took me longer to remove the tape than to install the hitch!

No need for extra person/hands/brain when u have blocks of wood!

I'm having trouble finding anywhere with stock on a bike rack accessory attachment during cov19.

etrailer a nice place to do business with!

2005 Toyota Matrix

Fit perfectly on a 2005 Toyota Matrix XR.
Easy
on with 4 bolts. An issue I had was bolt holes had some rust and took some cleaning to get bolts started.

by:

I like that you included the bolts with the hitch.

2008 Toyota Matrix

Pictures attached from my Hitch install on my (new to me) 2008 Toyota Matrix XR. Nice easy install and looks good. I was concerned that the "rear spoiler" would be a problem. It was not an issue. The wiring harness was also an easy install.

The dealer wanted about $500 for the whole job including the wiring harness. After I looked at the video clips, I decided to do it all myself. I'm very pleased with the whole process and the results speak for themselves.

No fooling around hitch, bolt it up and quickly and safely install your hitch mount bike carrier whenever you need to hit the trails. The receiver is up tight to the lower bumper lip and yet is easily spotted when installing the bike carrier Strongly recommend, we have installed the exact fit hitches on two different Prius’s and one matrix to haul two bikes at highway speeds regularly

Flawlessly It’s still looking new, a quick shot of wd40 to the inside of receiver hole keeps installation and removal smooth and all surfaces fresh looking

by:

The hitch is very well built and their service was excellent.
Came with everything to bolt right on the vehicle.
Bought it to mount on the back of a Toyota Matrix to be able to mount a bike rack. Works great!!

by:

Fit perfect. Arrived quickly. Wish everything I ordered on the internet went as smoothly.

2003 Toyota Matrix

Trailer hitch was delivered promptly and adequately packaged. The longest part of this installation was getting my hands on the right TAP for the job. Living in the north east and having four seasons, coupled with having the car for 15 years, sure shows the signs of some rust. I sprayed some WD40 in the welded nuts and let it soak while I figured out how and where to get the right size TAP. A few days later a neighbor was kind enough to lend me the perfect size. For some reason it's easier to find the holy grail than that size of TAP in my area.

I tapped the welded nuts and got all the years worth of rust and crud off. Then I used a small hydrolic jack to prop up the trailer hitch. I used loctite on the bolts and tightened them to the recommended torque. The entire install was surprisingly simple. The hardest part was finding the TAP and boring the holes.

The trailer hitch looks well built and fits perfect.

by:

Totally worthless when it arrives three days after my start-of-travel day and four after the claimed expected arrival. Negative value when James in customer support tells me there’s nothing he can do about it because it’s en route already but three days away — including recalling the shipment and overnighting another — and that I am responsible for return shipping because the free shipping option the order defaults to is not guaranteed. In short, I have to locate the same item locally or from another dealer overnight (already delayed start at this point) and pay to return the item that didn’t arrive anywhere near estimate. Pre-sales support was great. Post-sales support has some catching up to do.

Note everything else in the order arrived in a separate box on time.

Another great product for an excellent price from etrailer.com. Fast delivery as promised. This hitch, for my 2007 Matrix XR, went on flawlessly in about 10 minutes with a helper. Couldn't be happier with the hitch or the buying experience.

Still a great product one year later! We have a Curt Trailer Hitch on both our cars. The only way to transport bikes. My brother-in-law got one for Mazda Miata after seeing ours. He loves his too!

Fairly happy with this product. There is a bit more "give" in the connection where I insert the hitch. Would t tho see that tighter, but otherwise pleased.

Natalie, thank you for your review. I am not sure what accessory you are putting in the hitch but an anti-rattle device such as part # RM-061-125 should help tighten up the play.

by: 06/23/2021

Thanks etrailer. The hitch I received for my Toyota Matrix fit perfectly. It is for a Saris bike rack that we already have.

The only challenge with the installation was getting the frame holes ready for installation. The Matrix has spent over 10 winters on New England and Midwest roads so there was lots of dirt and grime. A few wire brushes, some PB Blaster, your videos and about 4 hours of patience and elbow grease and I was able to mount the hitch without problems. Thanks again!

I ordered a trailer hitch and several other items that I needed for the install from etrailer. I will not get a chance to do the install for a week or so; but I have to comment on the delivery. My package arrived in just a few days. I get lots of items shipped to me; but just the care that was taken in the packaging really impressed me. The smaller items all came neatly packaged in a separate box within the shipping container. All items were securely packaged so there was no shifting or rattling. The outside box was heavy cardboard with a perfectly placed lifting handle. I've checked all the items out and everything is there, and the quality of all the products is excellent. I have no doubt that I will be pleased with the outcome of the install itself. Very impressive so far. I will likely be ordering more products from this company in the future.

2005 Toyota Matrix

I ordered this for my 2005 Matrix XRS and it is a great fit! The install was very simple and the installation directions were very clear and easy to do. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in need of a hitch for their Matrix. We've towed a small fiberglass trailer many miles over the last year with no problems at all.

2004 Toyota Matrix

Excellent product & customer service. This hitch & wiring harness C55522 fits my 2004 matrix XR perfectly, install in last than an hour. 10-1/2” hitch height off ground.

by:
Toyota Matrix

Fit perfectly on the XR and had no issues on the installation. With a 5" rise, the base of the coupler is about 14.25" off the ground.

Good morning! The products have held up great. Thank you for checking in. Ill be looking into a hitch mounted back rack pretty soon.

Really good price and quality, free delivery in just some days.

by:
2006 Toyota Matrix

The hitch went in without any issues. It looks great and does the job! I did not have the rusting issues a bunch of other comments referred to... I just cleaned out the bolt holes with a wire brush and the bolts went in just fine. I did put some thread lock in there just in case.

by:
2005 Toyota Matrix

No complaints! My friend installed it fairly quickly. My bike rack fits on it great as well.

by:

Easy to install. Did need to get a thread chaser for the treads on the car frame. Fit perfectly.

by:
2005 Toyota Matrix

Very easy to install. Fits perfectly. Just had to clean out the holes on the frame and it went on. Only challenge was mounting it on the driver side due to the exhaust being in the way.

by:

After finally getting the rust out of the weldnuts using a tap, the installation was a breeze: took about five minutes. Fits snugly and is hardly noticeable under the bumper. Looks like a high quality product. Thanks!

by:
2005 Toyota Matrix

Excellent Hitch, and the easiest installation. 4 Bolts and you're done! No Cutting, no removal of anything. Just hold it up, and bolt it in. Couldn't be easier!!!

Very Happy Customer =)

  • Recommended Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2007 Toyota Matrix XR
The reason the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12228 is not listed as a confirmed fit on your 2007 Toyota Matrix XR is because it was designed to fit the 2009-2013 Matrix. For your 2007 Matrix XR you will need to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12013 which is the only confirmed fit for your vehicle made by Curt, and as you can see in the picture I included, it will install very close to the rear bumper to give you plenty of ground clearance. You will need to use the Stabilizing...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2005 Toyota Matrix XR
Currently, there are 2 trailer hitches that will fit your 2005 Toyota Matrix XR. One Class-I # 24812 (Draw-Tite) and one Class-II # C12013 (Curt). With that said, they are all good products but I would most certainly go with the Class-II Curt hitch # C12013 because it will provide a higher tongue weight capacity of 250 pounds and Class-II will work with Class-1 and Class-2 accessories. As a result, giving you more options to choose from. With the Curt trailer hitch, if you plan on adding...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2005 Toyota Matrix
Curt trailer hitch # C12221 would be a good option as long as your 2005 Toyota Matrix is not an XR or XRS model. If it is an XR or XRS model then # C12013 would be the best option for a Curt hitch. These are both Class II hitches which means you have to use the ball mount recommended by the hitch manufacture so as not to void the hitch warranty. This will limit the amount of rise you can get to be able to tow the trailer level. Based on the picture you have sent you will need a good amount...

  • Which Ball Mount Goes with Curt Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Toyota Matrix
The draw bar or ball mount recommended for Curt trailer hitch # C12013 is ball mount # C45521. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19257 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. Then for a pin and clip use # F-4. And for trailer wiring you can use # 118386 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of your 2006 Toyota Matrix. I have linked a video review of the wiring harness for you.

  • Availability of Class III Hitch w/ 2 Inch Receiver for 2007 Toyota Matrix
All the hitches available for the Toyota Matrix are either Class I or II which use a 1-1/4 inch receiver tube. This being said, there's still options available that might work for you. For the best capacity, I'd recommend the Curt Class II hitch, part # C12013 which has a 250lb tongue weight capacity and a 2500lb towing capacity. For non trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers, the hitch warranty stipulates that a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 should be used. Most folks...

  • Parts Needed to Tow With 2006 Toyota Matrix XR & Can Bikes be Brought
I'll just rip this band-aid off as fast as I can but there is just not a way to use a standard hitch-mounted bike rack and tow at the same time with your 2006 Toyota Matrix XR. The issue, like you said, is the 1-1/4 inch hitch not having an adapter; even if it did though, hitch adapters reduce hitch capacity by 50% so you'd be going over that as well. The only solution would be to add a roof rack and two roof-mounted bike racks, and that's awful expensive for one trip. If you want to do...
