Video Transcript for Derale Snap In Radiator Adapter Fitting Installation

We're going to show you how to install the Derale Factory GM Adapter, part number D1303l5, which helps us out, because it means we don't have to cut or alter anything on the vehicle as far as factory connections. Now, to slide this into our hose, we're going to wrap it up with a nice, soft cloth, just like that. Then maybe use a pair of pliers or something to hold it. You don't want to mar it, you don't want to scar it, because it makes the seal inside of there . Then we'll just kind of .. There will be good.

We'll have plenty of room here for our hose clamp. Slide that down on and tighten it up. Now we can take our adapter and slide it right into the back of the radiator, and re-secure it with the clip. That's going to complete today's installation of the Derale Factory GM Adapter, part number D13035.

I purchased the Derale 9000 trans cooler to install on my 2017 GMC Savana 2500 to supplement the humorous excuse of a cooler that is installed by GMC. I carry a decent load most time, putting my van at around it's 8,600lb rating due to all of the tools I carry. I very rarely pull a trailer and empty out a good portion of my van when I do. On a hot day last week my trans temp crept to 206° and I decided it was time to do something to help. I installed this cooler yesterday and pulled my 6'x10' cargo trailer 15 miles both ways and the temp topped out at 184° which I think is great considering I had a full load out on my van and a light load in the trailer. The trans cooler is pretty straightforward to install. Mine took a little longer as I pulled my condenser loose to feed the fasteners from the back to the front, other wise I would have had to remove my fan shroud to access the straps to put the fastener buttons on. The most difficult potion was getting the fittings into the rubber hose, but pre-lube with a little ATF amd they will go in with some brute force. The cooler arrived in perfect condition, and appears to be a well built unit. All parts were present and after about an hour and a half or two it was ready to go. Just be sure to have addional AT fluid on hand to top the system off. All in all I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to seeing of it makes as much of a temperature difference as I'm hoping it will.

Worked perfectly for my 07 Suburban Transmission Cooler Install.

by:

Package arrived a day earlier than expected. Will be a week or two before installation. Products appear to be of great quality. Looking forward to installing the cooler.

by:

Based on how this felt after installation, I was sure it was going to leak. I'm glad I was wrong. It works wonderfully.

by:

What I needed to install the Derale transmission cooler as a secondary cooler on my 2010 Suburban.

by:

Auxiliary radiator works great and was very easy to install after looking at etrailers video online.
I would have given it 5 Stars if the cheap piece of hose that came with the kit had not blown on the way home from work and sprayed all my trans fluid under the highway.

by:

The transmission radiator , was a involved install, changed to a set of brackets, aluminum, to free float the radiator between the A/C dryer and Louvered shutters of the truck. Didn’t like connecting the two together for thinking heat sinking possibilities and become less effective. Was running at 139F, now 105F.
Your install video was very helpful to my planning and how I was going to do it. Install was on a 2020 GMC Canyon.

Hello. I ordered your products for both my wife"s 2011 Chevy Suburban and my 2008 Chevy Silverado. My Silverado also needed the the trailer wiring which I also obtained from you. Thank you for outstanding customer service and great products. Delivery times were great as well. Please find atached pics of install in the Suburban.

Appreciate the recommendation to get this part for my install to be complete

by:

This made the installation so much easier. I hate cutting into any automotive lines (brake, coolant, transmission). Initially it doesn’t look like it will work but it does, no leaks.

by:

This adaptor was a must for the cooler installation as the adaptor included with the cooler kit did not fit my vehicle. This alloy adaptor was not listed for fit on my 2017 GMC Sierra. I contacted the manufacturer and they could not verify fit. I purchased the adaptor anyhow and compared gage measure to the original tube fitting on my vehicle and it was the exact fit. I would prefer the adapter be another 1/2"- 3/4" longer as I used two hose clamps at each hose connection on my installation to insure good seal.

The adaptor is working perfectly..No leaks!

I used this snap-in connector fitting in the Grand Caravan when I installed the Derale 8000 transmission oil cooler. Snap-in fitting worked great in the return side. Reasonably priced and quick shipping. Now I'll have to install a cooler in the daughter's van too! Thanks etrailer for the excellent support and products.

by:

Works as expected, although the snap ring was hard to put back on. Maybe just that my fingers are too big to hold onto it and get it installed. Only thing better would be if it came with a second snap ring, I lost mine for about 20 min on the ground since it popped off while uninstalling the original pipe.

by:

Correctly worked from install, easy-to-use push-in fitting.

by:

Product was exactly as described. Easily snapped into place where stock transmission line fit, and provided a simple way to add an addition transmission cooler with no cutting or awkward fittings

This is exactly what is needed to install a transmission cooler on a 2017 GMC Canyon diesel.

Absolutely no problems or leaks with this product.

I ordered a transmission cooler for my '09 Tahoe that, even with the small cooler for the towing package, just could not handle the California/Oregon mountains. I had my trusted mechanic install it (he has much greater expertise than I). I've just returned from an identical trip over those same mountains. What a difference! Instead of topping out at 230 degrees (dangerous), I topped out at 183, only 13 degrees from normal operating temp. I ordered the cooler and installation hardware. It's been awesome not to have to worry anymore about transmission burn out hauling my trailer that is 25% BELOW advertised towing capacity of this vehicle. Kudos to etrailer for offering such great products!

by:

Worked out great for installing the extra trans cooler.

No leaks still doing its job

by:

I received the cooler and Snap-In radiator adapter and thankfully it was sooner than expected. Everything was in order except that the cooler hose was 5/16" ID and the cooler and adapter are 3/8". Since the hose was not long enough (I needed 6ft) I was going to have to purchase hose anyway.
Everything works fine on my 2011 Chevy Traverse but unfortunately I neglected to take photos of the installation. However as a note for other Traverse Installers it is necessary to remove the front clip in order to gain access to the radiator. I made my own bracket to hold the cooler and mounted it in front of the AC condenser on the steel bumper which is accessible after the fascia (clip) is removed. I do not like the direct contact with the condenser. The bracket is bolted to the bumper as I drilled and tapped holes for the mounting points.
The clip is easy to remove after removing the inner fender guards. The factory manual suggests using a plastic wedge to unsnap the fascia below the headlamps. I used a plastic one that is used for installing glass/window seals.
It wasn't a quick install but not too difficult either. A significant part of the time spent involved the design, cutting and welding of the bracket.
Thanks,
Bob

Installed this in my 2008 Avalanche, utilizing the following kit:
D13504 - This cooler
D13002 - Mounts
D13003 - Extra hose
D13035 - GM adapter

Everything went well, took the longest time just figuring how I wanted it mounted in the front to make me happy, second to the time spent was of course removing the front fascia of the car. Once I got it in place the only extra things I needed were some P-clips for hose mounting, some split loom and zip ties(my necessity to prevent chafing ever). The GM adapter went in fine, was a bit leery of how 'loose' it felt even after being clipped in, it does move in and out about a 1/4" but this is normal and no leaks present, just make sure the clip retains the adapter. Pushing the new hose on the old hard line that went to the radiator is a bit of a bear, use lube on all your hose barbed ends to ensure easy insertion. Also when mounting the cooler, some screws were attached to the bracing of the car, pre-drilling those holes with a small bit helps tremendously, rather than risk trying to drive a self tapper in with force, slipping and putting a hole in your condenser.
After install, transmission is running about 30-40 degrees cooler in normal city driving, will test to see how it does with a tow load. Under towing I would get up to just shy of 220 degrees in the Florida heat, hoping to see it stay below 190 under load.

by:

Worked easily and perfectly for my 2008 Chevy TrailBlazer 4.2L with built-in transmission cooler, in order to connect to my additional Derale D13504 cooler using 11/32" hose. I was surprised that it didn't leak at all, as it snapped in so easily and could be spun, but it hasn't leaked in the year since I put it in.

by:

I bought this because the transmission temp in my 2013 Avalanche was hitting 220 when towing a boat. Which seems high. After researching I found that transmissions in those models are ok up to a maximum of 275 degrees (which seems crazy but it is rated that high from chevy. There’s a website called Silverado.com that has a lot of info ). I installed this product and it worked really well. Easy install with the video if you have mechanical ability. Dropped temps by about 30 degrees. Still working great no problems. Only concern I have is that the transmission temp stays pretty low in the winter. It’s working well though. I would highly recommend this product. Good products, good service!

by:

We have been very happy with the performance of the transmission cooler. There was a significant drop in transmission temperature after replacing the stock cooler with your product when pulling our camper. Very easy to install on our Chevy pickup.

  • Fitting Needed to Install Transmission Cooler on 2003 Chevy Silverado Without Cutting Lines
The Derale # D13035 you'd looked at is the fitting you'll need to install a transmission cooler like # D12903 on your 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500. The # D13035 will allow you to install a transmission cooler without cutting the existing transmission lines, as you can see in the video I've linked for you. The video shows a transmission cooler being installed on a 2003 Chevy Avalanche, but the procedure would be identical for your Silverado.

If you have sufficient room in that area to accommodate the 11 x 12 inch size of the # D13504, that's what I'd recommend.
