I bought this bike rack because I didn't want to have to remove my bed cover every time I wanted to take our bikes on a trip. This rack works perfect because I can roll up my cover and this thing just clamps across the bed. Taking the front tire on and off is kind of time consuming but when I travel with my brother who has a hitch mount rack, it takes him just as long to unload his bike as it takes me to unload. The wheel mounts tighten easily and the bikes appear secure during long drives, so I don't worry about them coming loose. Of course, you'll want to wrap a bike chain around the bike and rack if you plan to leave them out to make sure no one can steal the bike (although it would be missing a wheel)

2007 Honda Ridgeline

I used 2 inch square tubing cut the length of the tie down support bracket in my 2007 Honda Ridgeline and secured with a stainless bolt and wing nut, use a large enough washer to cover the diameter of the supply hole in the Honda Ridgeline bracket on the truck.

A couple of notes:
Be sure to use something as a cushioning gasket to insure a snug fit and to protect your truck lining. I used rubber or foam exercise mat cut to the same as the aluminum square tubing.

Use a washer that a combination of hard plastic and metal to avoid the corrosive effects of dissimilar metals in contact with each other.

last: My 26" full suspension bike fits, but I have swing it to one side slightly before i close the tailgate and lift the bike up and slide it down....It's a very snug fit but the suspension adds pressure to the tailgate and its works out very well. Or you could just use a tailgate extender.

Thanks for the photos and review. I was concerned it wouldnt work easily enough in my Ridgeline, since it wasnt in the compatibility list. So it sounds like only one bike will fit in the bed with this rig, huh? Thanks again.Andy

Due to how short the bed is, if the bikes are long you may have to leave the tailgate down to get 2 in. We do not list is a fit for the Ridgeline because it would require some sort of fabrication like what Brian did to get it in the Ridgeline. If your Ridgeline has a hitch, a hitch mounted rack is always an option too.

Ford F-350 Super Duty

Referring to special mounting instructions if you have a bed liner: (line #3). I do not have a bed liner, but I do have a molded plastic cap on my bed rails ('04 Ford F350). The first install over the plastic cap the locking pin or pin as called out in line #3 was nowhere near making contact with the metal lip of the metal bed under the plastic. What I did next on the second and final install was remove/cut away the plastic on the inside of the bed rail to allow the vertical portion of the "L" mounting bracket (Fig 4) to contact the metal bed. The locking pin is now at a position almost where it would protrude under the metal bed lip if I would remove the rest of the plastic under the horizontal portion of the "L" mounting bracket, I did not do that. After cutting a notch in the metal rail to accept the pin, the pin barely flushes out to secure the rack. A 1/4" longer pin would take care of this problem.

One other thing that was not addressed in the install instructions was if you have a full size pick-up bed you are likely to attach the passenger side fork mount (Fig 2) to the right of the extension tube locking mechanism. The extension tube is a smaller diameter, so you will have resize the fork tube clamp (Fig 1) for the smaller tube. I can't explain how to do it other than it's a Chinese puzzle.

Im very pleased with the rack. I have not had any problems with it at all. Its worth every penny!

The bike hitch works great. We took it on a long road trip and it was totally solid. It was nice to leave the bikes locked in the bed of the truck at night too. I would highly recommend this.

by:

I have enjoyed the ease of this trailer. Once loaded and traversing 4x4 terrain the bikes dislodged the trailers from the tightened position so I ended up permanently drilling them into the frame. Which for me is not a big deal since I keep my trucks forever. But the only other snag I had was upgrading my mountain bike this year to a larger axle size which is not compatible with this trailer. Other than that it’s a winner.

Dodge Ram Pickup

After one year of using our swagman, we are very happy. We own RAM 1500 with ram boxes and mounted the swagman at the back end of the bed. We mounted the skewers on the bottom side of the bar, to mount the bar upside down. This let the end brackets mount perfectly on the side walls just in front of the end gate. Our bikes when mounted face the rear. Works great!

Great construction, solid build. It uses a pressure fit system to hold the rack in position, so it can be used on multiple trucks if necessary (not a permanent fixture in your truck bed). Replaced one I had for 14years (held together with duct tape at its end). Only assembly was attaching the fork mounts to the brackets on the main bar. Here's where they could make it better: The left/driver side fork mount slides along a smaller sized square tube than the right side, but uses bolts that are too long so they thread through the bracket and hit the bottom of the fork mounting plate (a quarter-inch shorter bolt would be perfect, and I was too lazy to go hardware shopping). I simply positioned the left side bracket where I wanted it, tightened down the bolts and then tightened down the fork mount on top (notice the photo of the left side mount). I also have a bedliner, and the kit comes with a couple bolts and nuts to hold the rack from slipping on the sides of the liner. They recommend drilling a hole into the bedliner and the inside of the truck bed to install the bolts. I had a couple thick sheet metal screws and used a power drill to fasten it all together, but actually the rack was not slipping at all on my liner. The lock mechanism is clever, with a push button to lock it. So, easy on easy off. I don't plan on removing the rack a lot, maybe never, but with my bedliner screws installed it would be very time consuming if a thief wanted the rack. I also would not leave bikes locked to the rack unattended for very long, it is not intended for that kind of security.

I'm super happy with the product. For the price point, this thing really outdid my expectations. The build quality is high, and it's very versatile. The only problem I've had so far is that when trying to reconfigure the mounting blocks to go on the smaller part of the crossbar, I had to slightly bend/open up part of the block to put it in the other configuration. This was the case for all four of the blocks I have across two of these mounts. Also, the blocks on the larger portion of the crossbar have such tight tolerances, I had to use a rubber mallet to remove them after loosening all the hardware. This damaged the finish on the crossbar itself, which I'm sure will eventually lead to rusty spots.

I did not have a great customer experience with the order, however, for a few reasons. I really wanted to put three bikes on this bar, so purchased an additional mounting block in the same order. The long answer I finally got back was that even though this part is shown on the website, it's actually on back order for at least six months. This is pretty confusing since it's only one component of the total rack, and there don't seem to be any supply issues with the total rack itself. My final solution was just buying two total racks to get the parts I wanted, as this was still cheaper than other brand alternatives.

The big problem with this debacle however, was the service itself. My order sat for two days with no updates. I called etrailer and was informed that their were long wait times and I could put in my phone number to get a call back. I did so, but never got a call back. I then called the next day again and got in touch with someone right away who promised to look into it and call me back within an hour or so after etrailer reached out to swagman. That never happened either, so I had to called swagman myself and got similar information that the product was backorderd, however confusing that may be. So finally five days after my order was placed, I called back one final time and modified my order to remove the additional block and add an extra rack. The agent was good enough to keep the then expired sale price valid on both racks, and they shipped the same day, arriving two days later.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Product was delivered on time and damage-free.
PRO's: Great product! Well built, sturdy, heavier than expected, holds (2) bikes really well on my 2016 Chevy Colorado! The Lock works to prevent theft of the unit, you need to get a long cable lock (suggest two 6' thin masterlock cable locks) for locking the bikes to your truck bed hooks.

CONS (VERY MINOR): The button to collapse the unit was difficult to push in, maybe put some grease on it in the factory. The aluminum fork holders have a cut-out in them that is sharp, suggest sanding/filing the sharp edges and burrs. The inside square tube had a burr in it.

Solid as the day it was installed.

by:

It worked well, but not without doing some "tweaking". When set down on the bed rails the locking pin would not line up with the hole in the bar so it took some filing on the hole to get it to work. Also the axle mounts would not set flat on the mounting pads so that also took some work with a file to get them to mount flat. Once I got all of that done it works fine.

2015 Ram 1500

Used this bike rack for the first time this past weekend and it worked perfectly. I drove down a fairly bumpy dirt road and it held true to the truck bed and held the bikes steady. etrailer had a great price and shipped it quickly. I would highly recommend it rather than spending more than twice as much for a similar rack. I didn't expect to find a bike rack like this for this price. Assembly, installation and operation are all very easy.

The Swagman truck bed bike carrier is a very high quality product. Very strong and will not scratch or damage your truck bed. Bikes are very secure during travel. I unlock it and fits easily behind front seat when I'm at my destination to ride. Great product and much lower cost than hitch mounted carriers.

2014 Ford F-150

this is a great rack for a truck bed. set your width once and use release button to install or remove rack in seconds. works perfectly in factory stamped indentations in my 2014 F150. the bikes are below roofline of truck cab to protect bikes from bugs and such. e-trailer is great online retailer .

by:
Ford F-150

Great product. I have a camper shell on my F-150, so I turned the bar 90 degrees and mounted it near the floor of the bed just inside the tailgate with the grip pads up against the bed's rear corner pillars. The bed tie-downs help give it a nice, snug fit. The bikes go in backwards with the handlebars just inside the rear window of the camper shell. Perfect!

by:

This bike rack is TOP notch. I was pleasantly surprised with the Quality when I got it. Wow. None of the videos I saw had this being used in a truck with a toolbox installed, so I was wondering it my bike would fit with the tailgate up. Lucky for me, it did. This bike rack is easy to install and easy to remove when not using it.

by:
2011 Ford Ranger

Perfect! Works exactly as advertised. Comes with hardware and tools to adjust for your application. I was skeptical about it staying in place with two bikes mounted while running across rough roads in a truck that has a choppy ride (2011 Ranger). It didn't budge.
Would buy it again in a heartbeat and cant see why someone would pay $100 for an aluminum one.

by:
2011 Chevrolet Silverado

Rack works absolutely perfect for me with my tool box mounted in truck bed. Bikes are secured tight and tailgate is closed. Can't ask for anything better!! Nice job Swagman!!

by:

Product arrived on time although I was not home when delivery was made and UPS did not bag the item and therefor the box got soaked as it rained the night of delivery. As a result of my truck being fitted with a BakFlip cover I had to rotate the unit and mount low in the bed. All works good except the lock feature dose not work and it may be due to the orientation being outside the intended design. All and all I'm happy to have something that allows me to carry the bikes inside the bed.

by:

Very satisfied with the product’s quality and how fast I was able to have it in my hands after ordering the swagman bike rack. It fit great in the bed of my truck and has been put to good use already. Thank you for a great product and customer service!

2010 Toyota Tacoma

Received the rack yesterday and it took all of 10 minutes to install in my '18 Tacoma this morning. Instructions were pretty thorough and should work great for our bikes (road and mountain). Quality mounts & skewers is a plus. Nice to have the option for locator pins in the side rail, too.

by:

The product is excellent and easy to install. I would highly recommend if looking for a simple to use truck bed bike rack. Secondly a real pleasure to deal with the people at Etrailer, no hassle.

  • Will the Swagman Pick-Up Truck-Bed-Mounted 2 Bike Carrier Work with my Mountain Bike?
The Swagman Pick-Up Truck-Bed-Mounted 2 Bike Carrier part # S64702 is designed to work with the 9mm skewer setups. I am unsure but think that the Giant does use this system. To ensure check the skewer on the front axle and confirm this. It will work with up to two bike weighing in at 40 lbs. or less so you're in great shape there. The bed length of 5 foot can put a slight damper on things but worse case scenario the bike will sit slightly angled. We regularly do this up here and it...

The easiest solution would be to use a tailgate bike rack like the # SR26461. Your bikes will basically just set on the top of your tailgate with this rack. They actually work quite well, are easy to load, and can be used to protect the tailgate from other things like lumber. We have bed tie downs but none specifically for the Utili-Track system.
