An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Received these in just a few days so that was nice. Install was super easy only took about 20 mins to remove old bump stops and put these on. I had hooked my toy hauler up to my 22 ram 3500 before installing these and it squatted about 3 ½". After installing these the sqaut was only 1¼". Excited to see how the comfort is while towing the toyhauler.

2013Ram3500

As stated it helps stabilize your rear end, I have a 3500 service truck that is around 13,600lbs so needless to say I needed the support. Great product and installed with ease.

by:

Very stout and well made. Were easy to remove when not needed, as I only tow my RV seasonally and put the stock bumpers back on for the rest of the time. I use them rather than the inflatable type, longer life span and no leaks, ever! Stiff ride though without a trailer for sure, also I notice they help my truck a lot with sway on the winding roads with and without the trailer attached. I definitely recommend them if your vehicle sags when towing.

2022 Ram 3500, 30 minute install time, great product. Hooked up camper without sway bars and only squat 3/4 inch, where before 4 to 5 inches. Recieved product in 3 days with etrailer staff sending me numerous emails. Great job to etrailer staff. Thanks

2019 Ram3500

Shipped in their flimsy packaging which cannot handle the UPS truck. Box broke open, UPS taped it and all the hardware is missing. Called etrailer and said I needed hardware asap. Now three days later and nothing. I have a trip on Monday. Very disappointed.

by:

Easy installation in about 40 minutes. On heavy truck with dump body and hoist the install has no gap between SES and axle. This is not effecting the empty ride and should definitely improve the stock suspension sag when loaded. Very happy!

by:

Didn't come close to needing the rubber discs that come in kit. Kind of a waste as these are somewhat expensive. What I used of kit seems to work fine.

@Wendell We're happy to hear that your # T94VR Timbren helper springs are still working well for you!

by:

Had a problem at post office with address label so they didn’t except the first delivery called and they re shipped immediately no questions asked, which was awesome! Second time they made it only to find they shipped the brackets only, once again called and shipped the other immediately, so customer service is great, which is rare these days! Would recommend ordering from them to anyone!

by:

The installed very easily and without incident. However, after the first outing (about 1000 mi on paved roads) the ride quality proved to terrible that I removed them. They solved the sway problem I had but rear suspension rebound was so harsh I was afraid the truck frame was likely to be damaged. It was like having no suspension at all in the rear.

by:

Very good quality and took less than 30 minutes to install. I tow bumper pull RV's and a 5th wheel. Can't wait to tow 1 and see how it works.

Works great. I also have 1 on a 99 2500 Silverado. Thats why I purchased this one. You dont know you have it until you hook up a trailer or load something in the pickup. Then it just works. I will definitely continue to purchase one with each pickup I purchase.

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

So I recently had two product purchases from etrailer, my Timbren load suspension upgrade and my truck bed camper frame mounted hold-downs, both to be installed on my 2016 3500 Ram. The installation and performance of both of these products went very well. I received great phone support from etrailer operators, as my buddy and I have in the past. It was my buddie Mikie who originally recommended your Company from numerous purchases he has made with you.

by:

the product was very easy to install, but I was very dissatisfied with the ride of the truck after installing. The rubber distorted and there was almost metal contact with the bolt holding the spacers in place with the real axle housing. We have replaced your product with an air ride suspension which I am extremely happy with. I would not recommend this product to be used.

by:

Easy to install. Took 20 minutes without air tools

by:

For all intent they appear pretty good and they were very easy to install. However I haven’t had the chance to see how they work under load. All of the input from RVers my wife found on YouTube has been positive.

  • What Is The Warranty On Timbren Vehicle Suspension, # T94VR
The warranty on the Timbren Vehicle Suspension, # T94VR, is limited lifetime warranty. The parts are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials, under normal use and service, for the life of the vehicle on which the kit was originally installed. Severe use vehicles like tow trucks, dump trucks, and snowplow trucks have a 5-year or 250,000 mile warranty. The warranty is only on parts it does not include shipping or labor. The Timbren # T94VR is designed to fit 2003 to 2010...

  • Recommended Timbren Suspension Enhancement For 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 With Salt Spreader
Based on the fact that you are concerned about the ride quality, and you keep the truck unloaded in the summer, I would recommend the # TDR3500CA over the severe duty # T94VR. The # TDR3500CA still has a high capacity at 8,600 lbs for your salt spreader but does not have the same Severe Service kit designation and design as the # T94VR. It is likely you will still see some difference compared to before the installation of the jounce-style springs, but it will not have the same impact as...

  • Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement For a 2023 Ram 3500 Dually Long Bed
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR3500CA is the standard rating Timbren springs for your 2023 Ram 3500 Dually with an 8' bed. Do note these will not fit if you have the factory air suspension option. We also have the Severe Service Kit # T94VR which are rated for trucks which always carry heavy loads. So if you are only using the truck with towing heavy loads or installing a service bed these are the best option.

  • Comparing Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for 2016 Ram 3500 Towing 5th Wheel
I understand the confusion based on the difference in capacity. The key is the difference in design. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # T94VR is designated as a Severe Service kit so the springs are always engaged. Although the capacity is slightly lower at 8,000 lbs, the design is intended for a constant heavy load like a salt spreader or in-bed camper. Based on the frequency of your towing you want the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR3500CA. These have...

The correct Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System for a 2019 Ram 3500 is part # TDR3500CA. The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # T94VR is for trucks with a constant heavy load like if you had a truck bed camper or service bed instead of standard bed. These springs are engaged constantly and not something you would really want on a daily driver. The capacity is a bit confusing I'll admit but rest assure, part # TDR3500CA is what you want for general use and towing.

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement Product for 2006 Ram 2500 Carrying Small Slide In Camper
For a Timbren suspension solution for your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4, I'd recommend going with the lower-rated # TDR2500CA which will provide the proper support for up to 6000 lbs. The heavier-duty # T94VR is more intended for use on severe service vehicles such as tow trucks and ambulances. I'm certain that you wouldn't be pleased with the rough ride you would experience with the higher-rated Timbren product. • Recommended Suspension Enhancement to Improve Ride and Sag on 2012 Ram 2500
Since one of your goals is to reduce sag I suggest the Timbren system. The TorkLift StableLoad # TLA7311 is mainly for creating smoother ride and to avoid sway and body roll. The Timbren springs will help with sag while towing and won't affect the ride of your 2012 Ram 2500 when it's not loaded. They become more rigid as the load increases to help prevent the truck from sagging. They also work independently to help with uneven loads that improves the overall ride and helps body roll,...

  • What is the Difference Between my Payload/Cargo Capacity and Towing Capacity
There seems to be a bit of confusion here, which I'll try to clear up. There are 3 main capacities related to the weight your vehicle can handle that you generally want to know; your payload (cargo) capacity and towing capacity are going to be two different ratings, and your truck will also have a combined weight rating (GCWR) which is the maximum combined weight of the truck, payload (cargo) and trailer. You're correct that the pin weight of your trailer is going to take away from the payload capacity, since that weight is going to be over or slightly forward of the rear axle of your truck and also correct that it is typically around 18- 20% of the GVWR of the trailer. The payload also gives you 150-lbs that is not considered (the average male driver) so it's technically 150-lbs more than what it says.
