Box was delivered in poor condition with packaging tape all over. It was a package that was obviously returned by another customer who had received the faulty product. Upon installation, I realized that the locking clamp wasn't functioning properly. Due to the poor product, I've had to inform my customers, they must wait for my service until my roof rack is properly functioning.

It sucks that it arrived this way. To be honest sometimes UPS does not deliver it in the best conditions and it is not unusual for it to come taped like this. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

Absolutely fantastic! So easy to put on and secure.
No noise what so ever on the interstate, nor driving normal speeds. 22 Subaru Outback Wilderness

Garbage! One of them wouldn’t secure. Too low weight capacity also.

by:
2010 Infiniti QX50

After one year on the roof rails of my Infiniti QX50, I give this set 10 stars! Easiest install ever and logical- no knuclebusting, one person could do it all , but having another to help place each set of rails and locks in 2 places is a must . Then one happy camper, or skier , or traveler can add whatever needs once they are locked- and the locks are simple and intelligent- no screwdrivers specific to other brands Allen wrenches yada yada.

A Thule box on the right side and a kayak on the left side.

Also - the cost for these was stupendously fair and low.

by:
2023 Subaru Forester

The tightening knobs can be over tightened fairly easily, and will no longer tighten. This renders the entire mount unusable. Register a warranty with CURT or return before using the product if you wish to avoid getting stuck.

Solid item. Bought it for my 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Also purchased the Yakima Ski/Snowboard rack in addition to these cross bars. Will write a review after a year of owning it.

by:

I think for the price point these cross bars are great. If you’re needing them for a tent or heavy duty, perhaps not the best choice. I’m no expert, that’s just what I think. I was relieved to find these as a Subaru Wilderness owner due to the lack of crossbar options and dependable information out there. I just wanted something good enough to hold some snowboards/skis, maybe a surfboard, but don’t care about the fancy name brands. I’m sure there are sleeker sets but I find these black Curt’s to look just fine. Came with 2 sets of keys, of course hardware, and took 40 minutes to assemble including the Thule snowboard rack. The next test will be how noisy they are, which I still think considering these will be on temporarily for a few months out of the year, I can deal.

by:

Been on the vehicle a little over a year. I’ve carried snowboards to cargo carriers. Bars work well and look good. After installing I decided to just leave them on full time. They add to the look of the 4 runner.

by:

Much better follow-up service. Racks delivered in 3 days like promised

Works great after a year. Still carry’s my raft frame awesome. Some wind noise if nothing is on it but that is to be expected. Works perfect as advertised

by:

Good and sturdy!
The only complaint is
that it creates considerable wind noise. Perhaps a more aerodynamic design of the horizontal bars would correct this

Etrailer Expert

Jenny N.

10/12/2023

What I recommend to combat the wind noise would be a fairing like part # RRRF4. It helps to direct the air up and over the bars to minimize the wind noise.

by:

Very satisfied with this roof rack! Easy to install, and works well with the kayak racks I use. There is some noise as you would expect, a slight whistle, but nothing my music doesn’t cover up easily. I leave them on all the time!

Etrailer Expert

Jenny N.

5/9/2022

I know the wind noise does not currently bother you with roof rack. If that should change, I recommend looking at adding a fair like part # INA262. They come in various lengths and this would be 48 inches long.

by:

The tightening knobs are easy to over tighten and will likely fail. The crossbar would not lock down adequately and was still moveable by hand pressure. Once the knob was tightened more the clamping unit failed. I inquired with etrailer and was informed that it was "easy to over tighten" and that replacement parts are not offered and that a full replacement unit had to be purchased. It really doesn't make much sense to re-purchase an item that has a known failure issue. In due fairness I was beyond etrailers window for replacement. However, if there is a known likely failure mode, replacement parts should be offered for sale - at a very minimum. Buyer beware.

by:
2023 Subaru Crosstrek

Four stars except its has failed and needs replacement after a year.

The rack worked great until last month when one of the clamp assemblies
failed right before a trip. The screw appears to be stripped, though I’m certain I did not overtighten,
so it can no longer be tightened onto the roof rail.

I checked online and could not find a replacement clamp so the whole system is
useless now.

In trying to trouble shoot the system I noticed that all of the threaded rods for tightening
clamps are badly rusted. After just under a year of use that’s disappointing and
may have led to the failure. Stainless steel for those would be a huge improvement.

So not too pleased with it anymore since I have to replace it.

I enjoy my Curt rails. They have held up just fine on my summer of kayaking with multiple boats but there are two things I'm not fond of when it comes to this pair.

The Knobs Take A Lot Of Turns: I wanted to take my rails on and off between boating trips and this alternative seemed to be the easiest to do that especially not requiring any tools. The turning mechanism works but let me tell you what I didn't expect just how many turns it would take. What time you save without needing a tool is made up turning the knobs a good 30 times it seems and that can get a bit tiring on the forearms 4xs.

Too Much Bowing: I also don't like how much these rails bow with higher weights. I have roughly 100 lbs between 2 kayaks on my roof rack and it bows pretty well. That's wasn't expected for rails rated to hold 150lbs. Not only do they bow but they feel a bit elastic so I concern that on bumpy roads it might slightly go up and down. That wouldn't be an issue but I'm concerned the screws from my kayak holders might scratch/dent my roof. So I end up having to place pool noodles between the rails and my roof if I have more than one boat on my roof for safety.

Overall they still have held up well and they do come on and off without a tool as described. But factoring the difficulty for a "simple" on/off and the bowing of the load capacity I unfortunately have to say these bars are average. Don't take this 3 ratings as a "don't get these" that is not the case and they certainly they do the trick. They just aren't "excellent" in the sense of excelling at all aspects.

by:

Great value. Easy to install and appreciate that it locks on and comes with a lock for the bikes.

by:

These worked great, sadly only got about 6 months of use out of them. I took them off after awhile and when I went to reinstall them, the bolt in one of the rail clamps would not budge and ended up getting stripped in the process. Hardware had become rusted.

by:

I recently ordered these bars for my wife’s 2016 Toyota RAV4. James was very helpful on the phone and they arrived very fast.

Unfortunately, the bars did not pass the test. After a 35 mile trip with my wife’s kayak on top (55 lbs), we arrived with the bars bent. Even after removing the kayak, the bars did not go back up. Because they were bent, the bottom of the Thule Compass Kayak and SUP Carrier kept hitting the top of the RAV4.

We followed the instructions to the letter during installation. Needless to say, we returned these crossbars and went with the Rola Rail Extreme RBU Series Roof Rack. Much better experience.

by:

Package was received in a timely manner, but with some issues. The package inside the etrailer box was damaged and It scratched my crossbar, it was deep that you can see the metal piece in the crossbar. I’m disappointed because of that. I know it will get a scratch later on, but I’m very careful on my stuff so I know it won’t be as bad as that. Customer service is exceptional.

After one year of owning, the racks have held up really well. I used these to attach a pair of kayak racks to my roof, and neither have been removed since installation, and have been sturdy and keep my kayaks in place when I need to move them.

Travis

4/12/2023

After two years, the racks still have not been removed and seem as solid as the day I installed them. I live in the southern Midwest, so needless to say, these suckers have endured plenty of major weather from thunderstorms, major wind, snow and ice storms, you name it.

First time customer. I was very impressed with the speed my order was processed and shipped and the way etrailer runs their business should be an industry example.
The Curt Roof Rack/Rails fit perfectly, they look very modern, well made and blend seamlessly with my 2017 Equinox. I like them. Kenneth

by:

Great rack. Installed easy. Made a little noise at first (wind noise), but I barely notice this now. This rack locks onto your roof, so can’t be stolen but you’ll need to keep up with the key if you ever want to remove. Good value.

by:

Easy to use, use it often

by:
2023 SubaruOutback Wagon

It was fine while it worked. On the third time putting it back on my car the tightening wheel started free spinning and wouldn't tighten anymore. etrailer and the manufacturer said I overtightened it and stripped it so it wouldn't be covered under warranty. In addition, they don't sell replacement parts so they said I have to buy a complete new roof rack for the 1 broken piece. I guess it is cheaper for a reason. I would not buy again.

by:

Quick shipment. Super easy installation.

The Curt Roof Rack for Raised Side Rails - Aluminum - Black - 53-3/8" Long # C18118 can be used with the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier and Lift Assist with Tie-Downs - Side Loading # TH898 on your 2018 Toyota 4Runner.
