Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2012 Scion tC

I have a Scion tc 2012. I had the same hitch on my 2008 and it performed well. I bought the same hitch for the 2012 but found that I had to alter the bumper to install the hitch (not a lot but needed to cut out a small portion or the hitch pushed the bumper up into the tail light.)

Pictures are below. Since the light package has to run from the battery underneath the car to the hookup for the trailer lights, I took it to a trailer shop. Being able to put the
Scion up was well worth it and I would not recommend trying it without raising the car.

Still a great hitch! Pictures below.

I see other pictures dont have to cut the bumper. Do you know why yours need to cut the bumper plastic?

Patrick B.

6/27/2013

It appears this is a pretty isolated event. I spoke with Draw-Tite and they haven't seen any of this with original fascias. Our best guess is that this one is either an aftermarket or dealer installed fascia that was not identical to the original.

2013 Scion tC

AWESOME!!! Before buying the hitch I saw the videos and read all about the easy installation but was very skeptical. Once the hitch arrived, I got right to it and in less than 30 minutes I was done. I did it by myself and had absolutely no issues installing it or making it fit. I estimate I saved over $150 by doing it myself.

5/26/2013

Is that a 2012 scion tc? Did you have to make any modifications to the bumper or hitch to make it for properly?

Patrick B.

5/28/2013

That is a 2013 Scion tC. There is no modification of the bumper fascia needed. The hitch bolts straight to the frame using 4 bolts, there are 2 weldnuts in the frame on either side. Check out the instruction link on the product page.

Very happy with my purchase. Arrived on time and well packaged. It was extremely easy to install. It took me approximately 25 minutes, only because my passenger side bolt holes were extremely dirty and it took a little time to get them cleaned out enough for the new bolts to thread properly. I was able to do this installation by myself by using my legs to hold the hitch while I threaded the bolts enough to hold it in place. Hitch weighs approximately 25lbs so not much effort was required.

Many folks who are not quite as limber like to use jack stands, such as # PTW41021, to give themselves an extra set of hands during installation.

by:

Haven't put it on yet but it seems pretty easy and looks pretty nice. The only I have to say is the the draw tite sticker is scratched up and the green right turn wire is looped through the brown tail wire and the red brake wire.

Thanks for the follow up Jordan. I have noted your order regarding the wiring harness and one of our customer service representatives will be in contact with you shortly.

by:

Went on easy although on a 2012 Scion
tC. The receiver pushed on the plastic just enough to deform it. It goes on ok, but if you want it to fit right you will need to cut the body panel just a little. But it works and fits ok with no damage. The two circled dimples in the photo should not be there that is what the hitch cause with no modifiactions.

Also the wiring harness that "t's" into the back lights required you to run a power line to the battery in the engine bay

eTrailer is an excellent outfit. The hitch was here in less than three days, thanks to an unexpected but welcome shipping upgrade. Thanks guys. I had the hitch on my 2012 xB in less than 15 minutes. Super easy.

by:
2013 Scion tC

For my 2013 scion tc, the installation was very easy. The only issue that i have was with the receiver end is pushing up on my bumper attached is a pic. The receiver should either sit about 3/4 of an inch lower, or 3/4 of an inch more towards the front of the vehicle. I was able to get it fastened, but im worried that over time it will rub into the bumper and make an ugly mark. Granted it wont be very noticeable because its the underside of the bumper, but i still wish the design would have avoided the bumper.

Hitch very easy to install, instructions well writen, works as expected, excellent product, excellent price and quality.

by:

It was so easy. I have never installed one of these before, but it went on without a "hitch" ; ). It arrived when they said it would and I was able to track it the whole way. I going to make sure to tell everyone I know about e-trailer.

by:

It all started with a simple to use website, I was able to find the exact hitch I wanted. Easy checkout at the right price. Excellent communications to confirm my order and to track my order.

WOW!

My last mail order hitch arrived all bent and I had to reshape it to install it.

NOT THIS HITCH! it arrived carefully packed in an oversized box without even a scuff.

Overall the best internet purchase I've made in a very long time.

Thanks for the excellent service.

The hitch itself was very easy to install - the shipping on the other hand took forever!

Bolted right in with no problems. I let my ten year old install it with my supervision of course. I very happy with how little the draw bar is shown.

Lauren really knew her job. She did a great job. I appreciate you folks you’ve always done right by me!

I bought a tow bar, hitch and wiring harness. Everything fit like it was supposed to, but the draw bar would have been easier to install if the car was brand new (8 yrs old, pre-threaded holes in frame corroded) but I made it work and now I can tow my boat!

by:

I got the hitch to tow my pond boat/rig. So far so good. Got the products in quickly and came with a load of good and helpful information to install it.

by:

My son got a new bike and it was too big to get in the hatch of my 2012 Scion XB (Release Series 9.0). Going places outside of my neighbourhood just suddenly became a challenge. I decided to look into getting a hitch so I can install a bike rack. I used a trunk mount bike rack in the past... but never really felt 100% confident with it. I decided to look into getting a hitch mount bike rack.... but needed to get a hitch on my vehicle for that to happen. I came across this hitch receiver on the eTrailer website and was very happy to see how easy it was to install on my XB. The cost was much less than I anticipated too... so I ordered it. The Free Shipping wasn't super fast but reasonable. The product arrived and I felt like it was a well-built high quality product. I read the instructions noticed they indicated said it will not fit on "Release Series" XB's. I thought that was weird because the video etrailer uses to show the install on an XB was the exact same one as mine..... 2012 XB Release Series 9.0. I proceeded with the install and I did it by myself with the car still on the ground in about 20 minutes. In my opinion it was super easy. My new bike rack came today and it worked perfectly with the hitch. So happy I found this hitch on etrailer. The information and available resources on the website made me confident in my purchase. We can use our hitch mounted bike rack to easily explore different areas with our bikes. I can't say if it would work other year Release Series XB's... but I had no issues installing it on my 2012 XB Release Series.

Using it to tow a small boat 900lb and a bike rack. After hundreds of trips theres been zero problems. Highly recommend.

by:

I purchased this so I could use a bicycle rack. The instructions were simple and it was easy to install, I just backed my car up on ramps to access the underneath. Though I tried to torque to the 68ftlbs, the torque wrench did not click. However I had the car rocking on the ramps, and figured that and a small drop of red locktite was sufficient to keep it in place. The bike rack fit well and everything was tight and true!

by:
ScionxB

I ordered this for my step-son so he didn't have to put his bicycle in the trunk of his Scion XB. He installed it in 5 minutes and it's barely visible. He is very happy with it for carrying his bicycle in a convenient way.

My step-son sold the vehicle just a week ago but the hitch was still being used up until then - good product.

by:

I recently ordered a class 1 trailer hitch and I installed it over the weekend. "piece of cake". It was on and done literally in minutes. The accessory wiring harness was beautifully made and connected very easily. The instructions were easy to follow except for "route the power wire" from the trunk to the battery (which is located in the engine compartment. I was able to route the wire under carpet and trim all the way to the firewall. I could find no way through and I did not want to drill through so I checked YouTube, which gave a clear route along the under side and up to the engine compartment. 3 hours lost. But the hitch and trailer wiring harness were first rate and etrailer service is excellent!

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 Scion xB
For your 2015 Scion xB the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24815 has been confirmed as a fit and would work well so I would recommend it for you. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack part # S64670. This rack has a ton of positive reviews from our customers who have tried it. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

  • Tongue Weight of Draw-Tite 24815 for 2008 Scion xB
Tongue weight is roughly 10% of hitch capacity. The capacity of this Draw-Tite Class I is 2,000 lbs, making the tongue weight 200 lbs. We have a hitch with a higher capacity for your vehicle. The Curt Class II receiver hitch (part 12490) has 3,500-lb capacity, giving it a 350-lb tongue weight. Since the Scion sits very low to the ground, I would highly recommend a cargo carrier with a rise. You might try the 20x48 Cargo Carrier by Tow Ready, part # 63155, which has a 3 inch rise. This...

I have linked for you two articles on towing; one covers the items needed and the other offers guidance for safe towing practices. • Is Fascia Bumper Trimming Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Scion tC
Trimming the rear fascia is not required in the instructions for Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24815. I have linked the instructions for you to view. However on some vehicles, people did have to allow the hitch to push up the bumper or have trimmed it for the best fit. It seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle. I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing the recommended ball mount is # 3593 and you can use pin and clip # PC2....

  • Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2011 Scion tC
Hitch mount cargo carriers are not tested to fit to specific vehicles. Instead, they are designed to work with specific classes of trailer hitches. The Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, # M2205, that you referenced was designed to work with Class III and Class IV trailer hitches with a 2 inch receiver opening. I have some options available for you, however, I do not recommend using the Carpod carrier with your 2011 Scion tC. All of the trailer hitches available for the tC are Class I trailer...

  • Does Draw Tite Hitch 24815 Fit 2012 Scion Release
I checked with Draw Tite and the part # 24815 is confirmed as a fit for your 2012 Scion tC so it would work well on your vehicle. I looked up pictures of the exhaust on your vehicle and since it is built into the rear fascia of the vehicle this hitch would fit around it. Draw Tite does not recommend any trimming to fit this hitch on your vehicle so it would not require any on yours either. Check out the install video I attached to see more info on the install process.

  • What is the Correct Ball Mount for a Draw-Tite Trailer hitch # 24815
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 24815, is a Class I trailer hitch. Only Class I accessories will fit. The reason is that Class I trailer hitches have a built in stop that will only allow Class I accessories so you do not accidentally overload the hitch. You can see this stop in the 4th picture on the product page. Also, with any Class I or II trailer hitch, you must use the ball mount recommended by the trailer hitch manufacturer otherwise you will void the warranty. The correct ball mount...

  • Recommended Hitch for Carrying Up to 4 Bikes and Light Duty Towing for 2012 Scion xB
A Class I and Class II hitch is offered for your xB. I'd avoid the Class I, as it would limit you to carrying only two bikes due to its limited weight capacity. The Curt Class II hitch, part # C12490 would allow you to carry up to 4 bikes. Curt's warranty requires that a # 18050 support strap be used by all non-trailer loads like a bike rack.
