A trailer jack is designed to lift the tongue of your trailer so you can connect the trailer coupler to your hitch ball. To do this, you'll need a jack with a lift capacity high enough to handle your trailer's tongue weight.
Tongue weight is the amount of weight that your trailer applies to the back of your tow vehicle. Typically, your tongue weight should be 10-15% of your total trailer weight (trailer + cargo). In other words, a 10,000-lb trailer would have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. For a trailer this size, you would need a jack with a lift capacity of at least 1,500 lbs.
It's okay to have a jack with a weight rating that is higher than your trailer's tongue weight. In fact, a jack with a higher lift capacity should operate more efficiently, allowing you to spend less time cranking and more time camping.
Every jack offers a certain amount of lift or travel. Screw travel is the distance the jack extends when you crank it (or toggle it to "extend" on an electric model). Some jacks include a drop leg for extra adjustability. On these jacks, you'll see the maximum extension of the drop leg listed in the specs as well. Adding the screw travel and drop leg travel together will give you the total lift. The total lift listed above can help you determine how high this jack will be able to raise your trailer.

Today, we're going to take a look at the Bulldog sidewind A-frame round jack with a 15 inch lift and a 5,000 pound lift capacity. Now this is a dependable jack. It recognizes the industry standard for agricultural and commercial applications. It is ASABE compliant. It does use precision fitted parts to provide exceptional stability and reliability. And this can be either a weld-on or bolt-on bracket that'll mount to any standard A-frame coupler.
To use it as a bolt on application. Now, the mounting hardware is not included. You would have to supply that, but if you notice the three holes. The Bolt holes. They are measured at the industry standard dimension of three inches center to center.
So will fit most A-frame couplers. The sidewind handle right here has a nice, smooth ergonomic design for easy cranking. You crank it clockwise. It'll raise the jack. You go counter-clockwise, it'll retract it.Now the outer and inner tubes are all zinc finished.
You can use a footplate or caster assembly on this. We do sell those separately. We do list them on this product page as a related product, and basically either one would slip right on there, and then you put a Snapper Pin through there to hold it into place. A few specs on this. We're going to measure the bracket height in the fully retracted position.
So it's going to be from the bottom here to the bottom of the mounting bracket. So that's going to measure right at eight and five eighths inches. Now, if we did crank this out all the way has a lift or a travel of 15 inches. So if we would measure that same measurement from the bottom to the bottom bracket, it'll measure 23 and five eighths inches.Now the clearance measured from the mounting bracket to the top of the jack. That is going to be measured right at 14 and three quarter inches. The handle radius from here to here. Is going to measure right at six and 11 sixteenths of an inch. And the outer tube diameter is two and a quarter inches. Inner tube diameter is two inches. And as we've mentioned, the lift capacity is 5,000 pounds. So again, you just crank it clockwise to raise it and counter-clockwise to lower it. But that should do it for the review on the Bulldog sidewind A-frame round jack with a 15 inch lift and a 5,000 pound lift capacity.

I use it on a 7500 lb (gross wt) flatbed trailer with removeable 4" sides that hauls everything from firewood to cars. I no longer worry about overloading the jack.

Great product. Very smooth while turning the jack handle
I love this design. The installation went great until I tried to attach the foot to the end of the stem. The stem would not fit into the foot. So I am waiting for a new foot to match this jack. :( The bolt holes lined up perfectly with the threaded holes in the trailer tongue. The only other features I would like to see for this product would be a waterproof cover to place over the top of it to keep water out of it and a grease fitting to lubricate the gears.
I only have a 14 inch tongue short tongue on my cargo trailer this is the only jacket would work for me boulders right on easy to use works perfect thank you

Very heavy duty and well built jack. I installed this to accommodate close clearances to a toolbox, and couldn't use the existing topwind jack. Very smooth motion, even under load.

Working as designed, Im well satisfied.
Truly a great Jack. Direct replacement for the oem jack. Three bolt. The oem was damaged at the base. Had no foot it was bent, and had a top handle design which I hit my knuckle on the battery box. This has a front handle which is great. Installed a flip foot at its base those two working together are awesome.
I was very happy to receive this, as it was replacing a poorly cared for, and incorrect size jack on a larger boat trailer. It is a slow extend/retract jack, but strength seems to be as advertised. Very reliable, and it feels solid under weight. I especially like the heavy duty sealed gearing, as my use will be around salt water. It should last a very long time

The parts have held up well, with proper care. Our use is around salt water, typically parts can get abused by nature. Theyve performed well.
I have purchased several times from etrailer, and every time the results are the same: Great product at a reasonable price, delivered to my door VERY quickly. This Bulldog jack was no exception. It is very solidly built, fit perfectly, and solved the problems I was having with my old, bent trailer jack. This replacement is much heavier duty, I expect a lot of years of service out of it, and I like the fact that the cover is removable for service/greasing.

Nothing new to report. The equipment still performs at, or above, expectations.
Unlike the original jack that came with my boat and trailer this jack has the strength and gearing to effortlessly raise the trailer tong off my hitch.

Jack is still as strong as the day I bought it.
It seems like a quality jack. It fit the a-frame hole perfectly. 3" centers. If it doesn't hold up it comes with a five year warranty so I don't see how I can go wrong with this product. Replaced my 1500 lb. jack with this one which is a 5,000 lb. so it should not strain so much on my 7 X 12 enclosed trailer. I would recommend this product as far as I can tell right now.

Drop leg does not fit into jack did a lot of filing and grinding can get it to go in now if I beat it in with a hammer and beat it out with a hammer, kinda pointless, back to using wood to block it up what a waste of money

I recommend using a detachable foot plate like part # BD018564 with this jack. The shorter foot plate will slide in easier than part # BD500377.
Fantastic! I can once again jack my horse trailer up effortlessly! I was able to remove the old jack and put the new jack on by myself. Looks great on my trailer too.

we love our jack! Its still operating wonderfully. We try and keep a bucket over it when not in use to keep the rain out. Thanks for the reminder that its been a year. Time to give it a grease job!

This Bulldog A-Frame Jack fits my trailer perfectly. I had to tap it with a piece of wood to seat it the last couple of inches before bolting it on. Nice tight fit with no slack or wobble. The sidewind action works like a charm and easily lifts the trailer tongue and rear of my truck allowing me to install my weight distributing hitch bars without much effort. The zinc finish matches my Vintage Airstream trailer.
Owning several trailers with similar jack, I would say this one takes a little getting use to have the crank handle in the front between the trailer and vehicle instead of being on the side in line with the trailer and after two months of sitting in the yard it was very hard to turn the crank, we had to spray a lot of grease inside the post to get a smooth operation.
Quality jack. I purchased to relocate jack back on the tongue of the trailer because old jack would be hit by the tailgate. This jack is higher capacity, easier to crank and worked perfectly to eliminate tailgate dents.
I bought this tongue jack to replace one on my vintage (1960) trailer that had rusted out. The old jack has a smaller diameter than what is now the standard, so it took some work to get in. This jack seems like it is much higher quality than the old one, and gearing is quite smooth. Much less expensive than I had anticipated as well.
I have to say that the seller was awesome, shipping to me very quickly and followed up to make sure the jack was what I needed. Highly recommend the jack and buying from etrailer.com.
The power jack I had on my travel trailor stopped working due
water getting into the power head over the winter. I looked at
other power jacks etrailor had as well as the manual crank type.
In the end I got the manual crank type ( rated for 5000 lbs ) as
I`ve used these on previous travel trailors . My trailor is about
2500 lbs and it raises it very easily. I was very impressed with
the descriptions and tutorials of all the products I looked at on etrailor. It did help to answer some questions I had. I received
the jack in a matter of days after placing the order and installed
it without any problems. I`ll definitely visit etrailor again.
