Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all of the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, and it also gives you the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Blue Ox weight distribution system

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your towing setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

2 Types of Sway Control

The TrackPro features 2 different sway control technologies to provide the best towing experience possible.

Positive Caster Keeps Trailer Centered

Blue Ox TrackPro Positive Caster

The TrackPro is built with a positive caster angle - pointed toward the rear of your trailer - to help stop sway before it even starts. This is the same technology that vehicles use to stay centered on the road. When you turn a corner in your car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically corrects itself and returns to center. This is caster taking over. Likewise, the TrackPro features a positive caster angle built into the hitch. Working in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force, this caster angle helps to keep your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle, even during high winds and sharp turns, resulting in a smoother towing experience.

Steel-on-Steel Friction Corrects Sway

Blue Ox TrackPro Steel-on-Steel Friction

While this system does its best to keep your trailer in line, the TrackPro is also able to correct sway should it occur. Unlike many traditional weight distribution systems with chain-style setups, the TrackPro uses steel brackets to hold the ends of the spring bars, and therefore your trailer, in place. While chain-style setups do a good job with weight distribution alone, they aren't really designed to limit sway, so they typically allow a good amount of side-to-side play.

In addition to better holding the trailer in line, these brackets create friction with the spring bars to combat sway that might occur in heavy winds or following sudden maneuvers. When this type of sway happens, the tapered ends of the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. This friction limits the movement of the spring bar, which minimizes further side-to-side movement of the trailer. The steel-on-steel friction that occurs with the TrackPro's spring bars is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars that weigh multiple tons, so you know it'll be highly effective.

Fast, Easy Setup

Blue Ox TrackPro Hitch Head

Many weight distribution systems require you to manually adjust the pitch of the hitch head by stacking washers. This can be a tedious, trial-and-error process where you have to unhook your trailer, disassemble the head to add or remove washers to get the desired tilt, put it all back together, and then determine if you have the correct placement. If the pitch still isn't right, you have to do it all over again.

The TrackPro removes all of that hassle with an easy-to-use hitch head that has the required pitch already built into it. Whereas other systems require washers to help achieve the proper tension in the head, the positive caster angle built into the TrackPro ensures the proper pitch, so there's no need to manually adjust the tilt. The only adjustment that may be needed is the placement of the head on the shank. Move the head up or down along the weight distribution shank to achieve the proper rise or drop for your setup. No additional, fine-tune adjustment is needed.

It was installed professionally by camping world. Coating is all coming off. Arms pop out during travel. The square pins fall though slots. The angled brackets that mount to camper chassis are failing. Its the worst hitch I have ever owned. Literally.

Oh my goodness! Typically I would recommend touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint as over time the powder coating will become marred. However since it has not been that long I will have the manufacturer reach out to you.

Pulled to Dallas from Jackson, MS and back and they performed as advertised - sway was cut way dawn. When it did occur it was self correcting.

Track Pro Distribution 13K Lb hitch: Delivered within 2 days- box was intact and everything was there. Easy to install with instructions (and a couple of online videos). Used it on a new 36' travel trailer that I was picking up from the dealer so I'm not sure how my 99 GMC 1500 would have performed without it. Reports of 20-30 mph winds that day and I had no issues sway and it kept the trailer completely level.

I just received these so no review on them yet but I am reviewing etrailer and customer service at this time. I ordered these in time for my move but their computer calculated the wrong tax (not me !). I owed $5.00 but they they call me -NO. So they cancelled the order and didn’t notify me. I looked up order to check tracking and found out cancelled. I called manager said was computer glitch the day I ordered. So I had to reorder. I was GUARANTEED by a manager they would expedite and guarantee 3 day delivery. Did they arrive as promised NO. They arrived a day late after I had left.

Because I wanted to use the hitch on an equipment trailer I was concerned about clearance at the wide front a-frame of the trailer. I called and spoke with a lady about the issue and she said send me some pictures. Because I use an old flip phone she said send it to my personal number. Wow! I did so and you folks confirmed that it would clear and I ordered it. The package came apart in shipment and lost some bolts, but your rep ordered them for me. The only clearance issue after install was my safety chain location. I can remedy that with minor alterations. Very pleased with the item and service. I can send a photo but it would have to go to the lady's personal number. Thanks, Reid

  • Will the 13K Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution System Fit 8" Frame
The Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution Systems like part # BLU27FR can accommodate frames up to 6" tall. For an 8" frame, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37140ET with Inner Plate part # EQ90-02-5208 and Outer Link part # EQ90-02-5378. This would be one of the only bolt-on systems for an 8" tall frame. The width won't be an issue.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For 2021 Ram 1500 Towing 29' TT W/ 7500lb GVWR and 975lbs TW
I would be happy to help! Since your tow vehicle is a 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab with the 5.7L Hemi I recommend going with an even stiffer weight distribution hitch than the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank - 13K GTW, 1.3K TW # BLU27FR you were looking at. The reason for this is the rear coil springs Ram used in the new 1500s are very soft and cause a lot of sag when towing, and we have run into issues where customers still had too much sag which cause a...

Ok, we can definitely help you out here with a really good weight distribution hitch for your 2018 Forest River Surveyor 285IKLE travel trailer. Since it's a pretty good size at just over 32 feet I'm not surprised that you are experiencing quite a bit of sway, particularly on the highway, so I think that should be our number one concern. The right system is going to depend on your total tongue weight, which we can calculate to be in the neighborhood of 12 percent or so of the trailer's...

I would be happy to help you find a weight distribution system for your 2014 Forest River RV Cherokee Grey Wolf 29BH. A weight distribution system is chosen off of the tongue weight of the trailer. The tongue weight is somewhere around 10% -15% of the trailer's total weight if it is loaded correctly. Your Forest River will have a tongue weight range of 770 lbs - 1,155 lbs. All three of the weight distribution systems you were looking at top out at 1,000 lbs. You will need a higher capacity...

  • Reason for Bounce and Sway on Trailer With Blue Ox TrackPro WDH
I'm not sure which Blue Ox TrackPro weight distribution hitch they gave you but based on the bouncing there is a good chance the system is rated too high for your tongue weight. It could also be that it isn't rated high enough so it is completely ineffective. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of your loaded trailer weight and with a dry weight of 8,500 lbs you're already looking at 850-1,275 lbs of tongue weight. Based on that you're already pushing the limits of the highest rated TrackPro...

  • How To Eliminate Sway When Towing 34 Toy Hauler With 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
It is pretty common for toy haulers to have sway issues since depending where you load your Harley it may actually reduce the tongue weight of the trailer. I recommend trying to load your Harley directly above or slightly in front of the axles of the trailer. If that doesn't work the best option would be a weight distribution hitch with built in sway control like the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # BLU66FR, but to determine...
