Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock

Today we're going to be taking a look at Curt's hitch lock for two-inch and two and a half-inch hitches. This hitch pin's going to be great for protecting your accessories. Most accessories don't come with locking pins and many don't even come with a pin at all. Well this way you can ensure that your gears going to stay safe and protected attached to your vehicle. The hitch pin attaches to the barrel style lock. It's a nice thick stainless steel, so it's going to be heavy duty and durable. Anybody that tries to take this off, is going to be spending way too much time out here that they're going to draw away too much attention and they're just going to hit the road.

On the end of the lock you have a watertight dust cap. This is going to keep out any moisture, dirt, and debris, ensuring a long lasting smooth operation of your lock.Once you insert your key, you can turn the key to unlock the barrel and it comes off. You'll see here on the inside that it has a rubber gasket that keeps any moisture, dirt and debris out of the inside of the tumbler as well, making it nice and smooth when putting it back on.With this particular style lock, you do have to unlock it first, then slide it on and then you can lock it again with the key. The hitch pin has a three and five-eighths inch span, which is going to be great for two and two and a half-inch hitches. This also includes your class three, four and class five hitches. When you're ready to install it, simply take the pin side, slide it through your hitch and whatever accessory you have in it.

Then you'll want to unlock the tumbler, slide it on and lock it down. You can finish by closing your dust cap. It's not only great for your accessories such as your cargo carriers and bike racks, but also for your ball mounts so you can keep those safe as well as your trailer that's attached to it.The pin comes with two keys for convenience. This way you can keep one with you and keep one at home for safekeeping. Many customers on our website compared Curt's hitch pin to Tow Ready's hitch pin and they both are three and a half-inch span hitch pins and they're both going to do pretty much the same job.One of the biggest differences though is that our Curt here is going to be stainless steel, so it's going to withstand the elements much better than just the chrome plated finish that the Tow Ready has.And that completes our look at Curt's hitch lock for two inch and two and a half-inch hitches.

I hate this lock. Why? Because it requires three hands to operate it, and so it's incredibly difficult to install it by yourself. You need one hand for the key, another hand to hold the lock end, and a third hand to push the non-locking end tight against the receiver. I had a locking pin then went with a trailer I sold, and I wish I knew which brand it was, so I could get another.

by:

A must have. excellent support and fast shipping from etrailer.com.

by:

Can’t speak for durability yet since I just received it but seems to be a quality product which I expect it to be. Fits perfect on a 2011 GMC 2500HD receiver hitch.

Still works great no problems at all.

by:

Constantly have to take apart and lubricate or it will not unlock and operate properly. Im assuming not a quality stainless steel was used.

by:

easily fit my 2.5" receiver

by:

Could not get the hitch lock off. Had to use a crow bar & hammer. Then had to use a dremmel tool to modify stem at locking mechanism.

by:

Been on my truck for over a year. No rust and no problems locking/unlocking like others I've had in the past.

by:

Overall I am very pleased with my ETrailer experience. Everything was pretty straightforward and my products came within a reasonable timeframe. My only suggestion to ETrailer is maybe to package the expensive products in a outer box. The product that I ordered was on the pricy side of things and I came home to see my expensive product sitting infront of my driveway, open to anyone driving past it. A criminal or an opportunistic person who understood the value of that product would definitely pose a concern. Other than that, this is a fabulous online store.

by:

I ordered Curt brand believing they were made in the USA. I’m sure it will do well but I didn’t buy Amazon in order to buy USA.

by:

Does the job but the mechanism doesn’t feel that solid and it’s a little difficult to lock and unlick

by:

Holds up to all the bumpy roads from TX to Louisiana.

by:

Very easy to use and the rubber cover most definitely keeps the moisture out of the locking mechanism.

by:

Best way to protect your hitch from the ft.

by:

Just installed this on my Silverado 2500HD. Seems to be a high quality product.

by:

High quality product and works effortlessly. The stainless steel lock looks great attached to my trailer cover too!

by:

The product did not fit the hitch it was recommended for. It only fit the receiver part and not where ball mounts to hitch.

by:

Quality product.

by:

Product arrived quickly and works as advertised. Fits loosely for Ford F250 Receiver.

by:

Looks good.

by:

Extremely fast shipping and a real quality product.

by:

Just received / installed the lockable hitch pin... just what I expected... exactly as described. Happy so far with my purchase. If it stands up to our NE Pennsylvania Winter weather with the snow and salt used on the roads without rusting, I'll be absolutely thrilled!

Some rust and corrosion inside and out, difficulty unlocking it so I cleaned it and loaded it with lithium grease inside hoping to combat the moisture that gets in and causes the corrosion

by:

It's a great lock that seats perfectly.

by:

Do not purchase this product. I ordered it and it lasted maybe 4 months. I went to remove it to switch it out and it was corroded and wouldn’t unlock and beat it off with a hammer. Then I called etrailer to ask about a warranty or replacement and they informed me that they don’t have a warranty on this.

The key to prevent corrosion with aftermarket products are to lubricate them often and remove them when not in use. Here are some more tips about prevention:

Always I am having a great experience. Never had a problem in any order in all these years. Super fast delivery, perfectly packaged and great communication. Thanks

Love my new hitch for my 2019 Toyota Rav Adventure. At first, I didn’t think it would slide between bumper and exhaust system, but it did. My wife helped hold one side while a car jack was used to lift hitch into position. I used a rubber mallet to get into position to install bolts. About a half hour later, hitch installed! Only concern was when delivered, the box was split open and the hitch was sliding out. Thankfully, no damage, bump step and locking pin were still inside box and hitch bolts were taped inside receiver, otherwise they would have been long gone!

  • What Locking Hitch Pin Fits My Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount # 325-GH-1025?
For a great hitch lock that fits your Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch # 325-GH-1025, I recommend theCurt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches - Stainless Steel # C23519. This lock is compatible with 2" hitches and has a 5/8" pin diameter.

  • Pin Comes Out Of Shank On BlackHawk 2 Tow Bar While In Stored Position
That is a very scary situation and I am glad you are okay! The replacement swivel ear or collar is part # RM-9200-8 for the BlackHawk 2 All Terrain tow bar part # RM-422 so it would not be the same as the Falcon. It sounds like to me that the hitch pin hole in the hitch on the motorhome has elongated over time. This can sometimes happen when the hitch is older. I recommend to stop using the standard pin and clip and use a locking hitch pin part # C23519 so the pin will stop popping out...

  • Would the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # C23519 fit a Class V Hitch
Hitch pins like the Curt Reciever Lock part # C23519 that you referenced do not have weight ratings because they do not actually bear any weight, the key is to find one that is long enough for the hitch on your vehicle. The # C23519 has been confirmed to fit the dimensions of Class III, IV and V hitches so it should work well for you. I attached a review video for you to check out also.

  • Does Locking Hitch Pin part # C23519 have a Weight Capacity
Hitch pins don't have weight capacities because they don't actually bear any of the trailer weight. The downward force of the tongue weight of the trailer is so great that the ball mount is pinned into the hitch so hard that none of the weight is put on the hitch pin.

  • Recommendation for Trailer Hitch Receiver Locks that Can Be Keyed Alike
We do have several 2 Inch trailer hitch receiver locks that can be keyed alike. I recommend the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - Flush Design, # e98880. Simply select the keyed alike option from the drop-down menu above and enter the number of locks needed into the quantity box. I have included a link below to a video review featuring this lock. Lock, # C23519, cannot be keyed alike.

  • Does the Towing Capacity of the Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount Part # C45900 Change
The towing capacity of the Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount part # C45900 will vary depending on the hitch ball used i.e. 2" (10,000 lbs) and 2-5/16" (14,000 lbs). However, the towing capacity will not change when using the ball mount in the rise or drop position and everything else in between. In order to protect your investment I recommend using the Curt Hitch Lock part # C23519. I have attached a review video of the ball mount in action for you as well.

  • Does Curt Hitch Lock # C23519 Work on Class V Hitches
Yes, the hitch lock part # C23519 that you referenced is designed for use with 2-1/2 inch hitches like what a Class V hitch is so it would work great with one.

  • Does Curt SecureLatch Pintle Hook & Ball CU57FR Have Tongue Weight Capacity
Good question, and there is not a tongue weight rating for the Curt SecureLatch Pintle Hook with 2-5/16" Ball - 2" Hitches - 14,000 lbs # CU57FR. This does not come with a pin and clip or lock, so I do recommend adding a lock to help protect your investment, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # C23519.

  • What is the Weight Capacity of the Draw-Tite 5/8 Inch Hitch Pin PC3
The class III and greater hitch pins like part # PC3 are never going to be the weak point in a towing setup therefore they do not have a working load limit (WLL) or break strength rating. This is pretty standard across all trailer hitch pin manufacturers. The trailer hitch and or ball mount will fail much sooner than the hitch pin will. I know it may seem crazy but I have never seen a hitch pin given any sort of weight rating before. If you really must have a weight capacity rating, then...

  • Stainless Steel Hitch Lock that Fits 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitch
Since hitch pins don't typically carry the weight of a trailer they are not weight rated. Normally it's the tongue weight of the trailer that pins the ball mount to the hitch tube which keeps it in place and not the hitch pin. This is not stainless but we have the part # C23519 which is similar and is stainless.

  • Recommended Locking Hitch Pin for 3 Inch Trailer Hitch
We do have a few locking hitch pins that will fit 3 inch trailer hitch openings like you have on your Ford Super Duty. Both the etrailer.com Hitch Receiver Lock # e98881 and the Curt Hitch Lock # C23519 have a usable pin length of 3-5/8 inches. 3 inch Trailer Hitches Openings should have an outside length of 3-1/2 inches, so either of these pins will work great. I recommend just measuring your hitch to confirm its outside dimension. I have attached video demonstrations on both of these...

Thank you for the photo, and it is a good idea to verify what you have, which I can confirm for you is a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. For a hitch lock, I highly recommend going with a stainless steel lock as it will prevent rust and corrosion, and for the best option you will want a Curt lock: - Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # C23519 This lock comes with two keys so you'll have a spare on hand just in case one of them gets misplaced, and it also has a rubber cover over the lock...

  • Recommendation For Tough Hitch Lock That Has 5/8 Inch Diameter And Fits 2-1/2 Inch Receiver Tubes
Hitch pins and hitch pin locks like the Curt Hitch Lock, Item # C23519, do not carry any weight so they do not have weight capacities. The weight is seated in the hitch, not the hitch pin, by the downward force of the tongue weight so something like the Curt Hitch Lock which has a 5/8 inch diameter and fits 2-1/2 inch receiver tubes will work well for you and your needs. I have attached a video for you to check out.

  • Hitch Lock Recommendation for Rapid Hitch Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount Kit # AM3410
The Rapid Hitch Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount Kit # AM3410 has a non-threaded hitch pin so a standard locking hitch pin like the part # C23519 could work. The Andersen locks part # AM3492 include a lock for the ball mount platform and the shank of the ball mount so this is a great solution as well.

  • Does Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock For 2 & 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Have Towing Capacity
Hitch locks do not have towing capacities, including the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock - 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches - Stainless Steel # C23519. Reason is because locks (and pins & clips) do not bear weight in the same manner as hitches or ball mounts, for example. So you just need to follow the capacity of the hitch or ball mount (whichever is lower).
