Video Transcript for Roadmaster Straight Safety Cables Installation

Today we're going to be installing the Roadmaster 64" Single Hook Straight Safety Cables, part number RM-645. In conjunction with the safety cables, this vehicle also has the Roadmaster Easy Floor Baseplate Kit installed, part number 523173-4, as well as the Roadmaster Falcon Tow Bar, part number RM-522. We've already got everything else hooked up on our tow bar set up. All that's left to do is tie in our safety cables. We'll go ahead and take the end that has just the loop on it and we'll feed it through the slot here on the side of our falcon tow bar. Go ahead and take the end of our safety cable and we'll feed it through. We'll pull it out down on this end.

We'll go ahead and take one of the quick links that comes with the safety cables. Go ahead and feed it through the opening right here on the tow bar. We'll then attach the short safety cable that comes off the baseplate to the tow bar. Then we'll add in our new 64" safety cable. We'll then close the D-ring or the quick link up.

We'll then take our adjustable wrench here and we'll tighten it down. Then go ahead and repeat the same process over on the other side. Now all that's left to do is hook our ends with the hooks on them to the safety cable ring here on our hitch. You want to make sure that when you do that that you cross the safety cables, so you'll take the one from the passenger side and hook it over here on the driver side, like that. Then we'll repeat the same process for the other one. That will do it for our installation of the Roadmaster 64" Single Hook Safety Cables, part number RM-645.

Great product. I needed longer Saftety Cables after installing a swing away coupler on my boat trailer tongue. This worked out very well. Well designed and arrived on time .

Several of the tow bars do include safety cables, some do not. We will always state in the product description if they are included. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you to assist with the return.

This kit worked out great for my 2022 Chevy Equinox. I like how it has separate side plates, which make it easier to attach the main bar. The points where it attaches to the frame seem plenty secure. It is important to watch the videos provided by etrailer as Ryan is very thorough and has good tips for installing. I would also recommend installing additional wiring while having the front end off. Overall, I was able to complete in my driveway. The hardest part was sorting out the wiring for whatever braking and tail lights you decide on. William S helped me pick all the necessary components needed for flat towing behind my Jayco RV. I am looking forward to a summer of camping and having more freedom to explore the area, now having a car.

by:

Very responsive customer service team. These cables were to replace cables damaged during our travels.

by:

Easy on and off! They seem strong and well made.

by:

FIt my set up perfectly. Great price and great product.

by:

Upgraded to a new tow vehicle and etrailer had all of the components that I needed. I was working with a short timeframe to get the new vehicle adapted before hitting the road for the summer. All parts were delivered promptly and with no damages or missing parts.

I have ordered several variations of RoadMaster towing accessories from etrailer over the years. etrailer is always helpful when I have a question, if they don't know the answer, they will send you where you can find the correct parts for your needs. That was the case with this order, my previous hook-up used the EZ hook safety cables. I bought a new Jeep to tow and the new base plate does not accept the EZ Hook Cables. After a conversation with etrailer customer service, they had me call RoadMaster for the solution RM-645 must be used. Ordered from etrailer and in just a few days the cables came in the mail. (I thought etrailer should have given free shipping, after all the products I have bought for over$100.00, but I guess not...) even with economy shipping, the cables arrived in short order. I am one of many satisfied etrailer customers, I'm sure.

Thank you e trailer for my order and on a timely arrival time for free shipping . I would gladly recommend your web site for all who need quality merchandise. Thank you. Sincerely Darrell

Working great

by:

Fast delivery, good quality safety cables, just what my Tow bar needed.. Greta customer service too

by:

Used these with the Raodmaster Blackhawk 2 Tow bar and the Direct connect base kit with removable arms. They were easy to run thru the channels on the tow bar and did not hang down excessively. Very easy to connect with the hooks on one end and the O rings on the other. Would recommend!

The cables are well made and very easy to take on and off. they fit well into the tow bar with ample play to them. Great purchase!

by:

Thank you for your professional customer aervice

by:

it works as it was designed....didn't lose my car or anything else...but the wiring for a trailer didn't have any wire in it so the lights and all would not work and you could not repair it for their were no wire inside the insulation...only problem that I have ever had with etrailer

by:

Quality looks good. Haven’t tried it yet but Soon. E-trailer is great. Will use them more

by:

Just What I needed. The quality is excellent and the shipping was "Fantastic"

by:

I’ve used the Custer light bar for about 8000 miles and it’s been perfect. Great battery life although I only drive during day. It fits perfect on my 2022 Spark and I didn’t need to cut the wiring.

by:

This was part of many Roadmaster components I ordered from etrailer.com to set up my 2014 Honda CRV as a toad. Etrailer's website is excellent and their review videos and installation videos are very helpful. Their tech service department is excellent as well.

These safety cables are well made and fit well in the channels of the Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain tow bar.

Note the etrailer video shows having to order extra rings to mount to the motorhome side. This is not necessary if you have a new Roadmaster baseplate with wide hole safety cabel attachment points. The looped ends and rings provided on the safety cab els should mount to the motorhome (and stay with the tow bar when disconnected and folded). The other end with the spring hinged hooks easily hook onto the baseplate with wide holes for the hooks.

I ordered both the Front and Rear anti-sway bar upgrade kits. The install on my 2016 E450 was quite simple, and accomplished easily in my driveway. The kit for the front was a simple remove and replace the OEM bar. The rear kit required drilling two holes to accomodate new mounting points. Other than that, it was also simply a matter of removing a few bolts, and replacing the factory bar. Some minor nits associated with the kits. The washers included in the kit for the rear didn't fit the bolts, also included in the kit. And, the instructions for the front kit didn't include torque specs for the bolts. A quick trip to the local hardware store, and a call to Roadmaster tech support solved the respective problems. Oddly, the Roadmaster tech guy read me THEIR instruction over the phone, and they DID include the necessary specs. I've intalled these kits on two different motor homes now. They work GREAT, and I highly recommend them if you're towing and it feels like the vehicle has a bit more roll than you like. HOWEVER, I would note that the difficulty of installation can vary widely. If you're planning to install yourself, I highly recommend downloading the instructions in advance, and crawling under your vehicle to check on accessibility. For the E450 kit, you'll have to be able to get under there with a drill, and not drill through any cables/lines that may run along the frame rails. You'll also have to be able to get a (typically somewhat large) torque wrench up in there. My experience suggests this can be nearly impossible on some vehicles without access to a grease pit or lift. Good luck!

by:

It's a safety cable.

by:

Got the non-coiled safety cables so I could use the channels in the Roadmaster Falcon tow bar and keep the cables up off the ground. Allows full range of motion of the Rv, Toad, an tow bar. Hopefully I will never have to "really" test these, but they look solid...

by:

Well made. Great fit and durability.

by:

Worked just as it ought to.

by:

I purchased RoadMaster Safety Cables for my 1993 Jeep Wrangler that was equipped with a StowMaster tow bar. Instructions were provided for several manufactures of tow bars including my StowMaster. Assembly was simple and took approximately 15 minutes and provided for a perfect fit.

by:

etrailer is my go to RV, trailer, towing supplier

by:

Excellent company to do business with. Best prices and quick delivery. I am a repeat customer and will continue to shop etrailer.com. I have saved money and time with every purchase. Shop around and you will find the selection and prices are the best. They also offer help, suggestions and direction for proper and safe use of all their products. They can't be beat.

  • Recommended Safety Cable That Is At Least 64 Inches Long
The safety cables I highly recommend are from Roadmaster, the Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables. These cables are galvanized steel with a strong vinyl coating for protection and hooks that are forged steel for optimal strength. You can get them in either 64 inch or 76 inch lengths: - 64 Inches (Single Hook): Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 8,000 lbs # RM-645 - 64 Inches (Double Hook): RoadMaster 64" Double Hook, Straight Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs # RM-648 - 76...

  • Straight or Coiled Cables for Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar?
Because this tow bar has a built-in cable guide, I would go with the straight cables, part RM-645. The coiled cables might be a little hard to thread through the cable guide.

  • Where are Roadmaster 64 Inch Safety Cables Measured From?
The Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645 is the overall length of the unit. If you are at all concerned with the amount of length I highly recommend going to a longer cable such as the 76" # RM-645-76 or the 80" Double Hook # RM-674.

The highest capacity straight safety cable we currently carry that could be passed through the channels of the Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain # RM-422 is only going to be the 8,000lb capacity Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645. We do carry higher rated options but they already have the clevis attached on both ends so you wouldn't be able to pass them through the channels. • Is a Safety Strap Included with the Roadmaster Stowmaster Tow Bar
The original Stowmaster tow bar came with a safety strap. The tow bar has been updated and they have done away with the strap. The description currently on the site is being updated as well and references to the strap will be removed. The strap in question is no longer available by itself since you are supposed to use safety cables such as # RM-645 and since the base plates for vehicles started including the shorter cables that go from the base plates to the vehicle frame.

If you have the room on your base plates connection to securely attach the hook, then there will be no issue with using the Roadmaster # RM-645 Safety Hooks. I found another option for you. The Roadmaster 64 Inch Double Hook Safety Cables, # RM-646, is the better option for you. Theses cables have the same features as the # RM-645 cables that you referenced, but this set includes hooks with spring loaded latches on both ends of the safety cable. • Recommended Safety Cable Extensions When Rise or Drop is Required for Level Flat Towing
If you need to add just a little more length to safety cables like # RM-645 due to a high-low adapter, I recommend using the safety cable extensions. Based on your current cable capacity, we have the 10 inch # RM-650648-10 extensions. For a 4 inch drop these extensions will allow a little slack to meet your needs.

  • Recommended Straight Safety Cables For Roadmaster Falcon Tow Bar With Enclosed Cable Guides
Since the guides on the Roadmaster Falcon Tow Bar # RM-522 are enclosed, I would go with straight cables. These are 64-inch long straight cables and will work well with the Falcon tow bar.

  • Coiled or Straight Safety Cables for Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar
In general people tend to like the coiled safely cables like # RM-643 more simply because the design helps to keep the extra slack from hanging lower towards the ground or getting tangled on something. With that being said when it comes to tow bars like the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain # RM-522 that you referenced, which feature integrated cable channels, straight safety cables are the better option.
