Slightly longer, so you can open your tailgate with a cargo trailer attached. Trailers with a tongue jack that is forward are problematic for tailgates...

by:

I’m pleased with the product and how prompt the delivery was. However the packaging was insufficient and the packaging was torn open all over. Scuffing of the finish is a result and of little consequence due to the intended use. It’s a stinger w/ball for motorhome. May I suggest better packaging in the future

by:

This is really nice. Beveled edges so it slips into receiver hitch so sweet. Beautiful welds heavy weight mount for my weigh safe ball. I bought a 10,000 lbs hitch and I wanted a draw bar with the same type rating. Now the only thing limiting my trailer capacity is my truck's ability to tow, not the hitch, bar or ball.

by:

I purchased a Ranch Hand rear bumper for my 2500HD but wanted to retain the use of a receiver hitch. The ball mount would need to extend 8" from the pin hole to even reach the edge of the bumper. This BM29 ball mount works out perfect. The welds look great and the finish is just fine. The only complaint I have is they gained a little length by moving the pin hole a little closer to the end shortening the insertion amount slightly. Not a big deal, it is just noticable next to the other mounts I have at the house.

by:

The products themselves I’m sure will do the job. I’m very disappointed in how they arrived. Poorly packaged, one piece of paper wrap did nothing. There was a hole in the box from the hitch not being wrapped up. There are chips in the powder coat.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint such as Rustoleum.

by:

Needed to extend my hitch due to tailgate needing to be open. E-Trailer had this one on hand for a very decent price. Easy order, and fast shipping. Thank YOu.

by:

Just bought a set of front steps for my boat, and needed some extra length on the ball mount.
This mount fits the bill at 13 1/4 long

by:

Perfect size for a 2004 Jeep Liberty with spare wheel on back. Very nice quality. I can now mount my trailer hassle free.

by:

BM20 Long Drawbar. Perfect for my 2005 Jeep Liberty. I no longer have to remove the spare to tow. Solved what was a major pain!

by:

Great for chassis cab trucks with long boxes.

by:

Gives me the extra 6" extension I need so that the rear liftgate on my van can open without hitting the trailer jack, or the spare tire which I carry on the trailer tongue.

This is a VERY solid piece, would easily handle far more than my 300lb tongue weight.
As usual etrailer delivered exactly as promised.

its been hung on the back for a year. I never take it off.All kinds of weather, including Hurricane Matthew, Totally bulletproof.I have only one complaint, I bang my shins into it once in a whilewhen loading stuff in the back. But thats me, not the hitch. In a year its pulled 3 different boats, 2 different trailersand, in a pinch, anchor point for the chain while felling a tree.

by:

just what i needed

by:

This worked out perfectly. Had a flat bed put on one of our pickups, but the frame mounted hitch sat too far back from the new dock bumper. This ball mount moved it out just right so we didn't have to put a new receiver on the truck.

Holding up very well after a year.

Just what I needed to tow my boat

I love this trailer hitch for my truck because it allows freedom to put tailgate up and down when we do equestrian camping. It has been a great purchase.

Great!

by:

This product allowed me to open my deck lid on the tow vehicle while hitched. I love it, was delivered promptly and is excellent quality, could not love it more!
Also increased capacity from 600/6000 to 1000/10000 lbs. while not needed I like the safety of the margin.

Could not be happier, great item.

by:

Excellent, heavy duty, well built. HOWEVER, the width of the lip where the ball mounts is over a 1/4" wider than standard. This means standard accessories such as stabilizers and backup guides will not be able to be used with this ball mount.

3/31/2014

No change. I had to have a custom ball mount made because of the limitations of your product and the complete lack of anything else.

by:

Hard to find item. But extends trailer back enough to open tail gate without hitting jack crank. Was not available at Northern or other suppliers locally.

Product has worked out to exceed my expectations. In fact it makes my trailer easier to tow.

by:

I ordered the Dexter nev-er-adjust electric trailer brake and bearing kit's for my Aliner. The installation was easy thanks to your instructional video's. The delivery was fast and everything fit perfectly. I took one twelve hundred mile trip and had no issues. I also ordered the Brophy ball mount because it was long enough for me to drop my tailgate without hitting the hitch crank.

Thanks

by:

We got this so we could open our tailgate without having to unhitch the trailer. It works great! Product is good, service was fast... it made our trip to Alaska much happier (our dog needs the tailgate lowered so she can jump in and out for potty breaks). We still need to have the truck and trailer pretty much straight in line with each other... if there is too much angle left or right, we can't fully lower the tailgate. We drive a 2015 Ford F-150.

by:

This was exactly what I was trying to find in various stores with no luck. Quality built, American made product. Gives me the little extra distance for turning and allows tailgate to drop without hitting trailer.

I love the hitch. However, the crime [chrome] has come off of the ball and it has rusted. The extended hitch has worked very well in towing and launching my boat.

by:

I had never towed anything before and recently bought a small pop up camper. The Ball mount was to short for my 2011 Jeep Wrangler and I had to remove the spare tire each time to correctly hitch. This Ball mount is the perfect solution. Just the correct length to hitch up with out any more problems. Also better made and less expensive then the dealer sold me. By reading the questions asked by customers I was able to pick out the correct product. Great Web Site and Excellent service.

by:

Always have the products and ships immediately. Thank You

by:

This is exactly what I needed to get my hitch to extend past my spare tire on my Jeep Liberty. It could have been 2" longer, since the locking mechanism on the trailer is still tight to the spare. This was the best product that I could find to solve the problem.

by:

I needed a longer hitch to accommodate my Rock Tamer mud flaps. This ball mount hitch is the perfect length, well made, and sturdy. etrailer.com has always delivered my orders quickly, and well packed. And etrailer.com is good to give me an email notification of receipt of my order, shipping of my order, and then to follow through to ensure that I received my shipment. Thanks etrailer.com!

  • Can All Ball Mounts Be Used in Both the Rise and Drop Positions
Most ball mounts can be used in either the rise or drop position. Typically if only one orientation is recommended it will specifically say, "rise only", or "drop only." To pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount you will need to take a couple measurements. Check out the help article that I attached that covers this.

  • Extra Long Ball Mount to Allow for Clearance of Canoes on a Trailer
Using the 13-1/4 inch ball mount, part # BM20, is obviously the easier solution however it may not give you enough room. You're in need of at least 2 feet just to get the canoes on the trailer and that doesn't even count additional clearance for turning. If the trailer is fabricated in such a way as to raise the canoes and they can extend over the trailer hitch (such as over the bed of a pick up truck) then this might work for you. If that isn't feasible then extending the trailer's...

  • Will Long Ball Mount Allow Towing Travel Trailer with Tail Gate Down
The Brophy extra long 2-Inch Ball Mount # BM20 provides 13-1/4-inches from its hitch pin hole to the center of its ball hole. Without knowing the nature of the trailer's front (is it flat or tapered into a V-shape, for example) or your particular truck I cannot say for sure if you'll have enough turning clearance with your tailgate down. You can estimate this yourself by placing the unhitched truck and trailer near each other at an angle, to simulate a turn, and measuring the length of...

  • How Come Longer Ball Mounts Dont Cut Capacity Like Hitch Extenders
Officially the ball mount part # BM20 does not cut any of the hitch's capacity due to its length, but this is a very valid question. The biggest difference is the amount of movement a hitch extender introduces into the setup vs. a longer ball mount. While I can admit the rules of the hitch extender capacity are a bit fuzzy when you compare them to a longer ball mount that very well could be longer than the extender, but it's basically one of those things where a rule had to be made and...

  • Longer Ball Mount Recommendation with Drop As Near to 1 inch As Possible
If you can't get the exact figure for the rise/drop you need the best solution is (if available) to go slightly higher in rise so that once the vehicle suspension is compressed slightly from the tongue weight it settles into being right at totally level. But if you can get much closer with a bit more drop than needed I would go that route over considerably too much rise as that will potentially add sway to the setup. But in your situation where you want 1 inch of drop from a longer ball...

  • Ball Mount and Ball Needed To Tow Utility Trailer with 2011 Toyota RAV4
In order to determine which ball mount you need you will need to take some measurements. Measure the distance from the top of your receiver opening down to the ground. Then with the utility trailer sitting on the jack so that it is perfectly level, measure the distance from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. • Can Longer Brophy Ball Mount be Used to Increase Distance Between Trailer and Tow Vehicle
Yes, longer ball mounts like the part # BM20 that you referenced are designed to do exactly what you described. They add length to the distance between the hitch and the trailer. • Choosing the Correct Ball Mount for a 2013 GMC Terrain to Tow a Small Utility Trailer
When choosing a ball mount, the first thing to consider is the size of your trailer hitch receiver opening. Your Terrain will have either a 2 inch receiver opening or a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. You can find this by measuring the height and width of the receiver opening on your trailer hitch. After that, we will want to find the correct rise or drop needed to tow your trailer level. To do this, we will need two measurements. You will want to park your truck and trailer on level ground...

  • How to Gain Clearance Between Vehicle and Trailer Load
There isn't a defined amount of distance you need to have between your tow vehicle and the kayaks on your trailer. You'll have the most issue while turning so I recommend testing to see how well they work in an empty parking lot or somewhere like that. • Why Do Longer Ball Mounts Not Cut Hitch Capacity but Hitch Extenders Do
You are correct. I know it seems somewhat conter-intuitive, but an extended ball mount does not cut the capacity of the vehicle hitch yet a hitch extender does do that. Reason being the hitch extenders are typically much longer than the longer ball mounts and they have quite a bit more movement due to the two connection points. Those being the extender to the hitch, and the extender to the ball mount. The fixed ball mount # BM20 is longer at 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin...

There are many factors that go into determining a weight rating for a ball mount. The Bropy Ball Mount # BM20 for instance with having the extra long 13-1/4" ball mount to center pin hole will create more leverage on the receiver tube. The same way you use longer ratchets to make turning a bolt easier. That is one factor that a manufacturer has to consider when developing a ball mount. • Will Adding a Longer Ball Mount to Towing Setup Make Trailer Easier to Back Up
Going with a longer ball mount or a hitch extender will make backing up the trailer maybe slightly easier, but realistically it's not going to magically fix the issues you are having. • Will Extra Long Ball Mount BM20 Decrease the Tongue Weight Capacity of a Trailer Hitch
No. Because ball mount # BM20 is not an adapter or extension, if used directly in the trailer hitch it will not decrease the tongue weight capacity enough (though it may decrease it only slightly) to be an issue. You will need to make sure that the combined trailer tongue weight, bike rack, and bikes does not exceed the 500 pound tongue weight capacity of the hitch. Also check the vehicle owner's manual for its tongue weight rating and if lower go by the lower rating.
