Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Well, where do I start? First of all etrailer did not place the correct address on my shipment. They left out two very important lines. Secondly I had to call to get a copy of my invoice. They didn’t send it at the time of my order. Good thing I took a picture of the order number.
Next? Changing or adding to an address with UPS while the package is being shipped? Impossible! So I took the tracking number to the loading facility of my location 75 miles away and the super cool driver supervisor at UPS took my information and made sure I received my shipment.

Now… yes it arrived but like I’ve seen in many reviews the box was a mess! It has at least a roll or two of packing tape all over it to keep it together. I don’t know yet if I’m missing any parts. I won’t have time to look till next week. I can not imagine UPS would accept a box in this condition so I’m pretty certain the damage happened in transit. Bottom line IMHO Curt manufacturing needs to be held to account for this. If you’re boxing up something that weighs 120 pounds make sure your packaging is up to the task.

Would I order from etrailer again? That remains to be seen. Am I happy with my purchase? Don’t know yet, I need to install it. In this case I’m broke down in the middle of nowhere with a broken hitch that was supplied with my trailer that is very possibly too light for the trailer.

The saga continues! If all goes well with the install and the operation of the hitch then I’ll be happy. Just a BTW… I’ve seen reports that this hitch works fine till it breaks. Finding a bumper pull hitch for a 15,000 pound trailer is not as easy as one might think.

This how the box showed up with just a couple of pieces left in it. Then they act like they are doing you a favor to replace it. Package it right before you ship it.

I’m using this hitch on a two axle 20 ft car hauler that has a bit too much tongue weight when carrying a full size pickup. It works perfectly for this & is quick & east to remove & install.

One year later, working great. Good quality. I didn't use the lift brackets because I have a race trailer that had them already welded on. Glad this system worked with the existing welded-on setup of my trailer. E-Trailer was great helping me figure that out among all the different styles available.

by:

I had a fastway e2 trunnion 12k pound hitch and hated it. It was great if you didnt need much pressure on the bars and always hooked up while on flat even ground. Most times I had to use a 3 foot prybar to get the weight transfer bars off the trailer and a 3 foot cheater bar to get the bars on!!! This 15k pound hitch from curt is great!!!! The welds could be better (pretty picky I'm a fabricator by trade) but nothing beats this style hitch. It may take an extra step if you want the friction brake but it is worth it. I run 2 friction brakes as I have a 38ft travel trailer and is pretty much a giant sail. The trunnion hitch couldn't handle that camper in the wind and there wasnt a way to adjust the bars for a windy day. but this hitch with 2 brakes works great. Dont always need 2 brakes but I like the option for when its windy out and we have a 2 hour drive on the expressway!!!

This weight distribution system and sway bar made a world of difference hauling heavy loads in my Big Tex 7'x14' dump trailer. We have hauled many heavy loads long distances through the curvy Mountain roads of central Oregon. Definitely levels my F250 4x4 pickup/Big Tex-7'x14' dump trailer combination and prevents the scary sway that we experienced on our first trip. We found that even the occasional high winds we experienced on two trips did not create a problem. The peace of mind and safety for us was/is worth every penny of the very reasonable purchase price. I was unable to use the standard chain hangers that came with the distribution system because of the battery and pump box location. The optional bolt on chain hangers worked great for me.

by:

This is an outstanding weight distribution system. I am fully pleased with it. I use it for towing my 2016 Grand Design 327RLTS. The tongue weight is rated at 1150lbs. I am certain it's closer to 1450lbs, but for this system it's no problem at all. I have no complaints and for the price it was the best buy on the web. Thanks.

by:

Ordered a weight distribution hitch with sway control. Hitch arrived on time and in good condition. Installation went well, and the hitch works perfectly. Very pleased.

by:

Great weight distribution hitch and sway control bar. Drove from Texas to Alaska with ease and no issue. Love this hitch

by:

I received my knew curt distribution hitch the other day. The shipping time was fast, in fact faster than expected. I put the few parts together on the truck and was pleased with the quality. I bought a new trailer and my old system was a little under rated. The curt hitch should work fine.

by:

Ridiculously fast shipping and a perfect price! Arrived in good condition. Installation instruction were simple to follow. The actual product information from CURT as to the specific dimension as an overall unit (i.e. mechanical drawing) would be helpful to determine if the product works correctly for your trailer. Enough was provided that I took a chance but we did have to raise my AC unit on the front of my trailer 2.5" and move one of it's support bars back in order to install the weight distribution system. Not at all any fault or any concern of Etrailer, but just wanted to share this note in case other have a propane rack or something else on their tongue.

by:

I purchased this to pull a small trailer with our 2014 Ford Explorer. I cannot express what an improvement this made in the handling characteristics.

I would never not use one again.

by:

I have done business with etrailer before and always have had excellent service. This particular time I had an issue with ordering and Troy was very helpful in resolving the problem and my Weight distribution hitch arrived two days later. I also had some questions which the experts at etrailer answered quickly.
I have installed the hitch but have not traveled with a loaded trailer but do not expect any issues.

by:

Your equipment is the best easy to install and looks good. Took all the movement out of the car trailer. I haul a 18 foot car trailer loaded to the max.

by:

Item was delivered had a minor issue with item Melissa from costumer service was the best at taking care of the problem. Very satisfied I have ordered from here in the past and will be using ETRAILER again Thank you Melissa for all your help .

by:

  • Can Weight Distribution be Used with a 2014 Ford F-150 FX2
Weight distribution is not vehicle specific so you can use it on your 2014 Ford F-150 FX2. The trailer hitch and the vehicle will have to be rated for weight distribution which they will be with your particular truck so no worries there. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the...

While the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System (SES) # TDRTT1500 will help to level out the ride while towing with your 2012 Ram 1500, it won't act in the same manner as a weight distribution (WD) system. The reason is because the SES simply pushes everything into place while a WD system actually distributes the loaded tongue weight between all of the axles in the towing setup so there is less strain on your vehicle. If you don't have enough room for a WD system then the Timbren...
