Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

Taillight Installation

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Unfortunately, after using for 13 months, the transformer went out and lights quit working. I called e-trailer customer service and was told it was out of warranty and there was nothing she could do. She also mentioned that this was a recurring issue for the product. I took my truck into a camper dealer and had them install a different brand to replace the faulty Tekonsha harness. Initially, I gave the product 5 stars as it worked well. Today I would rate at two since it worked just barely past the warranty period.

by:

Wire in perfectly on my 2017 Edge Sport. The only complaint (more a suggestion than complaint) is the mounting bracket for the connector. When you press the trailer connector into the bumper connector - or putting the connector cap back on, the bumper connector can pop backwards out of the mounting bracket. My wife's 2014 Escape mounts on the hitch and is solid. Maybe bring the mount off the side of the hitch? Black bumper is my Edge, silver bumper is wife's Escape.

More of a minor nuisance and recommendation rather than a complaint. Otherwise I've had no problem with the harness.

by:
2018 Ford Edge

The video's made installation fairly easy. An extra set of hands would have made the lifting the hitch assembly easier but using a few blocks and using the bolts as pins to install one side at a time I was able do to the job by myself. The trailer products are high quality and I following each step in their video as I preformed them. I chose to chop up one of the original Ford plastic covers under the bumper and reinstall it around the hitch for a cleaner original look (it also provides more support to the original plastic bumper piece above the hitch).

by:

The kit is exactly as pictured. It arrived as promised, and the quality was excellent. I would highly recommend this product.

2016 Ford Edge

The ease it was to install was amazing. It took me 38 minutes (- jacking up the SUV), 1 extra pair of hands for a total of 5 minutes and that was it.

My daughter is going to buy one and Yep I was volunteered to install it.

The wiring was more difficult then I expected. they show a 2018 edge in the video which must have more clearance in the body panel. As a retired mechanic I worked for about 35 minutes on 1 side and decided to simply splice the wires and pull from the top and solder and heat shrink them underneath the SUV. the second side took 15 minutes. I am not sure why there was so much difference but I was able to get it done and as you can see looks fine and you cant see any splices.

Arrived very quickly and the free shipping was a huge plus for me!

2017 Ford Edge

I installed this harness on my wife's 2017 Ford Edge Sport. There is something different about the Sport model, as Ford did not offer it with a trailer package. I previously took it to a trailer rental place that installs hitches, and they put on their brand of hitch and wiring. It did not work properly, Brake lights would not work. After they had it back 3 times, they told me they could not make it work and there must be something in the original wiring. So I bought this electrical harness from etrailer and replaced the old one with this one. It now works. Installation is not bad, but not easy either. One tool you will need is a coat hanger to fish the wires through. Took me about 4 hours. This was mostly fishing wires, and finding places to run them that is not right next to the muffler on the Ford Edge. Looks like a quality product at a good price. I only gave it four stars because I have not really used it yet, so I hope it will hold up.

I have now used this harness on my wifes Ford Edge Sport for about a year, and it has performed without a problem.

by:
2015 Ford Edge

Overall a very good product. Works great, although I have only used it once.
I didn't like the large rectangular splice blocks, as they are bulky. I wanted to put most of the wiring inside the vehicle and the blocks wouldn't fit through the holes available. I cut off the blocks and substituted my own splices. In the end I am very happy with the product/installation and I would buy this product again.

Simple, secure connections and no splice connectors! Perfect. The installation video made the project easy, even without a hoist. The original one I ordered was out of stock and they actually called (!) me on the phone to let me know that this was the same item from a different & reliable manufacturer.

Still working fine

by:
Ford Edge

Received this hitch in only a few days after it was ordered and the order arrived complete. Between the written directions and an available video I was able to install it in less than hour by myself. The only downside was/is that it sits a bit lower than an OEM hitch and as such will occasionally cause it to drag when entering/exiting a driveway. Nothing you can't live with, but just be aware it can happen.

I also ordered the wiring harness at the same time for the Edge and it also came promptly and within a few days. This was a bit more challenging to install, but again the directions and an available video made it a DIY install. Removing the tail light assembly without scratching the paint or breaking something was the fun part. They don't just "pop out" so be persistent!

by:
Ford Edge

I had Rack Attack install this on a dedicated tow vehicle (Ford Edge Sport) so i can't speak for the ease of install but I have had absolutely no problems with this unit. At the time I just provided the installation videos on etrailer to my installer. I bought a number of other products from etrailer including a wireless brake controller and a Curt Class III hitch which was all installed at the same time. Everything has been working fine and I hardly know it is there.

2018 Ford Edge Titanium: I couldn't get the plugs from the bottom of the car to the top via a coat hanger or any other device. Finally decided to cut the wires (from the box) and fish them down into the bottom of the car. I spliced the cables back together with a heat shrink marine splice and weather proof like a good electrician on a 10,000 Volt cable (smile). That took some doing, but yes, the kit works well. I don't like the idea that the converter box is under the car exposed to elements. Overall, I would order the kit again and make quicker time of it by splicing the wires. The 2018 Titanium Edge just didn't have enough room for the plugs to be fed from the bottom.

by:

The product fit as expected and installation was fairly simple. The wiring kit originally ordered was for a Sport model and does not work with a SEL with a Sport package for some reason. etrailer was very helpful in returning the incorrect part and replacing it with the correct wiring kit needed.

by:

Product was as advertised. I just over thought my ability to install it. Not sure why there is a separate power wire form the battery to the trailer wiring. Wondering if it will work with out that additional wire? Product is what I wanted, I will have to get someone else to install it.

A powered taillight converter will draw its power from a direct connection to the vehicle battery, but will gain its switching information via its connection to the vehicles taillight harness or tow package connector. Years ago, taillight circuits in vehicles used higher gauge wire and had enough capacity to handle the draw of the vehicle taillights as well as those of a trailer. Now that the price of copper has gone through the roof and vehicle manufacturers try to save all the weight and expense they can, the taillight circuits use smaller gauge wire that can handle the load from the vehicle taillights but not much else. Drawing the power directly from the battery also serves to isolate the tow vehicles sensitive electronics from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. Connecting the converters power feed anywhere other than the battery or where the converters manufacturer recommends can leave your vehicles electrical system exposed to possible damage. The harness will not work unless that wire is connected to the battery terminal.

Installation video very helpful and most likely couldn’t have completed it without it. The installation was difficult and took several hours. Product is very good quality and works well.

Used this class 3 hitch on my 2016 edge sport. Works great, all that is visible is the receiver. Took me about 1 1/2 hrs to install. Wiring harness that was recommended worked well also. Space is tight behind the tail light housings for the connector, but it will fit.

It took 5 hours to put it in. Impossible to pull the plugs up to the tail light opening. Will not purchase this product again. by:

The trailer hitch and wiring kit was delivered quickly and the installation videos provided made it super easy to do it myself. I also greatly appreciated the personal follow-up by George, who confirmed my order was correct and everything shipped promptly.

by:

The harness works as expected. Only issue I had was I had to cut and splice it since there was not enough space on the car to push the harness from the taillights to under the car.

by:

Easy to follow instructions. Put hitch on in about 1 1/2 hors. Everything fir perfectly. This is the 3rd hitch over several years that I have ordered from etrailer and they always install easily and work great.

Absolutely! For your 2017 Ford Edge, I recommend using either the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 or the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195. I was not able to confirm what the towing package for your 2017 Ford Edge consists of, but adding aftermarket products to a vehicle will not increase its base towing capacity.
