Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Brakes BP04-065 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the replacement shoe and lining for the Dexter 10" x 1.5" electric brake assembly. This part will replace the shoe and the lining for your 10" x 1.5" electric brake assembly for 2,800 pound axles. On axles that are manufactured after 999, they will also accept 10" x 2.25" brakes. These here are designated 10" x 1.5" and where they get those measurements from, the 10" is the diameter. When these are installed on your brake assembly, bolted down, if you measured from this shoe directly across to this shoe, the diameter is 10". The 1.5" is actually the width.

If we put a ruler on it you can see 1.5" for the width of the pad. To know which position these go on your brake assembly, you want to look at the size of the lining. If you look at that, the shorter lining, which is this one right here would be the primary shoe. That will face the front of the trailer. The one with the longer lining, that's the secondary shoe, that will be at the rear, or face the back of the trailer. They do use an automotive grade friction material which is molded to the brake shoes.

The lining is fully bonded, it's not riveted to the shoes, so it gives you a lot longer life, more braking torque. This part does come with the two hole bound springs and clips are all included. That should do it for the review on the replacement shoe and lining for the Dexter 10" by 1.5" electric brake assembly.

Everything is working well thank you

After removing the brake drums to service the bearings I discovered significant and uneven wear on the brake shoe linings, so decided to replace all four sets of shoes. These fit just right, and posed no problem with installation and clearance adjustment. The installation instructions you can get online from etrailer are detailed and worth following. One thing I'd add is to do a careful test for range and freedom of movement of the shoes once they have been installed, to check for any binding or obstruction that would interfere with the shoes both being able to expand in and out equally and smoothly.

by:

Very happy with the purchase. The part was exactly as described and was shipped right away. I would definitely purchase from etrailer again.

Great!

Ordered for 4 wheels and all four boxes contained shoes with dinged brake linings. Not bad enough for me to return them but if I had ordered them for a vehicle other than a trailer I would have returned them. I fault Dexter with this as the boxes have no packing in them and the shoes just bounce around inside. Etrailer was great for fast shipping but in the future, I'll re-line my own brake shoes.

by:

I ordered a set of brake shoes for a pair of obsolete Dexter 2.8k axles. It was very easy to locate the correct parts at etrailer. They had the parts in stock and shipped the same day. The price of the parts plus shipping was competitive or better than other suppliers. I have puchased from etrailer in the past and will do so in the future

We live in mid/northern BC, Canada. we had spent quite some time trying to find the right size of shoe/lining for the electric brakes on our older 5th wheel. We tried this site, I was so suprised at how fast it was shipped and how fast it arrived. Exactly what we were looking for! Worth every penny.

by:

Pads are good but brake material is rather thin vs larger brake pads. Stop fine however.

So far all seem to be working well. Thanks

by:

You were the only one that I contacted that still had that old of a brake shoe that did not include the assembled unit including the backing plate. On my trailer the backing plate is welded on. You were extremely helpful on my first order to you that I bungled the whole order on the size, for this I rate you tops for my next order , thanks Lane Thompson Weiser Id.

by:

We own a trailer sales and service facility in Colorado and could not find the brake shoes we were looking for any place local. We got on line to e trailer and found them right away.

by:

Parts worked great with no issues. As for customer care and shipping, it was a pain. Took a couple weeks to get my parts (covid excuse) but the worst part I was told I'd get my shipping cost back since I paid extra for it to get my parts sooner. I was never reimbursed.

ordered new brake pads and hardware kit for an older camper. Which etrailer had in stock and which the camper sales said weren't available.

Thanks

by:

I couldn’t locate these brake pads anywhere locally in the northwest and found etrailer had them Greg S helped me making sure these were the ones I needed everything fit great. I liked their shipping tracking, could track my parts very well. I will definitely be using this company again

by:

The brake shoes and adjusters came right on time and in good shape. I started doing the brake job on my travel trailer but had to stop. Everything seems in order-the shoes and adjusters fit fine.

by:

Ordered 4 sets. Ordered from ETrailer because it came with replacement springs for the same price as other sites without them. Great transaction.

by:

Got these shoes installed on my trailer. They fit perfectly and worked just great. Price was right and was shipped right out. I haven't dealt with this company until recently but it is now the place I go for my trailer needs.

by:

would like to see part first

by:

Product was exactly what was needed and made our trailer road ready once again. etrailer response was excellent. The weak link in the system was it was received by our local UPS hub on Mon morning and delivered to USPS that within a couple hours. It then took to late Wed afternoon to get it delivered to the house. I saw a few UPS trucks in our area and on our street during that time but they did not deliver.

by:

These buggers are hard to find. Thanks eTrailer for having the right parts to stop my travel trailer! These fit perfectly and work fine.

by:

The brake shoes arrived packaged well and on time as promised. Excellent quality, and I am well satisfied. Would recommend to everyone who is looking for great quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Can Brake Assemblies have the Magnet Mounted on Top of the Assembly
Typically brake assemblies mount with the magnet at the bottom of the assembly and the actuating arm pointing forward toward the direction of travel. I can't see it in the picture but there should be a mounting flange that the assemblies attach to on the axle. You should be able to unbolt the assemblies from the flange and rotate them 180 so that the magnet is facing the right direction. Otherwise if the assemblies are working adequately you would want to just leave them be. You would...

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Bearings, Shoes and Magnets for Trailer with Welded on Assemblies
Let's start with bearings. The only two solutions I have for you would be to remove the hubs and get the numbers that are stamped on the bearing or for you to remove the hubs and use a digital or dial caliper to measure where the bearings and seal ride (see pic). To pick out brake shoes will require you to know the brand of your brake assemblies and the size of them. You will need to measure the diameter of the inside of your brake drum plus the width. (see picture.) You will need to...

  • Can 10 x 2-1/4 Inch Electric Brakes Replace 10 x 1-1/2 Inch Assemblies on Dexter 2.8K Axle
You may be able to replace the 10 x 1-1/2 inch electric brakes on your trailer with the more common sized 10 x 2-1/4 inch assemblies. The potential issue is the Dexter 2.8K axle that your existing electric brakes are mounted to. This particular axle normally has the brakes welded onto it. This means that the assemblies cannot be outright replaced and you can only get replacement parts, such as the Electric Brake Shoe # BP04-065. However, if the axle on your 1998 Terry Travel Trailer...

  • Solution for Replacing Brake Assemblies on 1994 Terry Trailer
You'd have to look into new assemblies and hubs since the 2 inch wide brake assemblies are not a standard size. So to do that I would need you to get me your axle capacity, your trailer wheel bolt pattern and also the bolt pattern of the assemblies that attach to the spindle. • How to Determine Which Replacement Drum Brake Pads for 1998/1999 Dutchman Classic/Royal 31-FK-DSL
In most cases, it's less expensive or nearly so to simply replace the entire brake assembly, rather than individual parts. To recommend a replacement brake assembly, I'd need some additional information. I'd need to know: -Inside diameter and depth of brake drums -Number of mounting bolts (4 or 5 bolts) attaching brake assembly to mounting flange on axle -Axle capacity. This can be determined by checking the axle for a plate listing its capacity or by providing the inner and outer wheel...

  • Brake Shoe Solution for 2014 Jayco Trailer with 10 inch by 1-1/2 inch Brake Assemblies
If the brake assemblies you have are made by Dexter then the brake shoes part # BP04-065 that you referenced would be correct since they are 10 inch by 1-1/2 inch wide. If you have a different brand let me know, but I don't believe we'd have a solution then. What you were told was only partially correct. If you wanted to replace the entire brake assembly but you had welded on brakes then you could not replace the assemblies. The retention pin will then release allowing the spring to be removed. In order to put the spring back on, you will simply repeat the process but twist clockwise instead of counter-clockwise.
