Quick Tip: There's really not a whole lot to getting new drum brakes. If you've confirmed that all of the specs listed above line up with what you need for your trailer, you can be pretty sure these will work for you.

Self-Adjusting Brakes Don't Require Routine Maintenance

With standard electric brake assemblies, you need to manually adjust them every now and then to make sure you're getting the shortest stopping distance every time you tow.

A trailer drum brake with a red callout shows the location of a tension cable and pulley on a self-adjusting trailer brake.

With self-adjusting brakes, though, you'll always have peak stopping power - simple as that! As the brake pads wear over time, a tensioning cable will automatically keep the pads in alignment so they'll consistently make contact with your drum when you brake. You won't have to do tedious manual adjustments anymore.

Thoroughly Tested for Safety

Dexter invests a lot of resources to ensure that these brakes meet the requirements for certification set by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Basically, a CSA certification tells you that these trailer brakes are well built and safe for use on the road.

How to Break In New Brakes

Once you get these brakes installed, you'll need to break them in. First, find a long stretch of road or a big, empty parking lot. Once you're there, set your brake controller to its maximum setting and get moving. Speed up to about 40 mph and brake to slow to about 20 mph. Repeat this 15-30 times. The goal is to get the brake shoes and magnet properly seated into your drum. You'll know you've done that when it feels less jerky (and more consistent) each time you apply the brakes.

Note: The brakes will be very hot after doing this, so after every 10 stops you'll want to wait about 10 minutes to let the brakes cool off before continuing. If you don't, you might cook and crack the pad material.

After doing my homework on what I needed for my Grand Design 230 RL finding the original equiptment replacement parts was essential. After much time on the internet E Trailer had what I needed. I was taken back by the pricing after my search showed some less expensive replacements of the not OE quality. Upon receipt of my purchase I see why the price. Very high quality. Happy me.

by:

Easy to install and have been good reliable brakes for several trips so far. Although, extremely expensive. At over 3 times the cost of the next size down, seemed excessive, but if that’s the size you need you have no choice.

by:

Great service. Got everything fast and complete. Great product and service.

by:

It took awhile to get the correct part numbers, but when done, the product installed nicely! Highly recommended.

I ordered 2 sets of 10" 2 1/4 electric shoes / self adjusting for my Jayco eagle. Received them about 5 days after i ordered them. have installed all but 1 on rear axle. They were very easy to install and wire. tested them today while burnishing them going to another park so far they work well. hope to finish the last on soon. • 10" Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies For 4,400LB Axles With 3-1/4" Lower Bolts and 2-7/8" Top Bolts
The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-462-463-00 and Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-478-479 for 4,400LB axles have a similar bolt pattern. They have 2-7/8" measured on the top 2 bolts and 3-1/4" spread on the bottom 2 bolts, so either the numbers got entered in the wrong order or someone may have flipped the axle rather than using the proper Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00. The brakes are still the 10" diameter by 2-1/4" wide.

  • Can 4,400 lb Trailer Axle Brake Assemblies Fit 3,500 lb Axle Hub/Drums
The bolt pattern of the 4,400 lb brake assemblies like the # K23-478-479 is different from the 3,500 lb axle brake assemblies like the # 23-468-469 that would fit so that's what you'd want to go with. I know it sounds tempting to put higher rated brake assemblies on the axle to help improve braking power but it actually doesn't work like that. The difference is higher rated assemblies have a more sensitive brake magnet which only means that dialing in the correct braking power on a lighter...

  • Replacement Brake Assembles for 2019 Forest River Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite Fifth Wheel RV 2989B
The 2019 Forest River Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite Fifth Wheel RV 2989BS uses 12 inch brake assemblies so for a set of left and right assemblies you'd want the # AKEBRK-7-SA and you'd be set. This is correct size and capacity and also these assemblies are self-adjusting so you wouldn't have to mess with brake adjustments.

Based on my research, it looks like your 2006 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite camper has a tandem axle setup and the axles are 4,000 lb AL-KO torsion axles. There should be a label on the axle listing the manufacturer and the weight rating of the axle so that you can confirm these are the axles on your trailer. The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 4.4K # K23-478-479 are sold as a pair (left and right brake assembly) for one axle. If you've got a tandem axle trailer you'll want to order two sets of these. These brake assemblies do not include mounting hardware so if you need to replace yours then you'll want to use the Mounting Hardware for 10" Brake Assemblies # BRKH10B as well, for each axle you're replacing the brakes on.

  • Replacing Hubs And Brake Assemblies On A 2014 Keystone Cougar 31SQB
I can definitely help and point you in the right direction. I was able to look up some specs on your 2014 Keystone Cougar 31SQB Travel Trailer. Based on what I can see, this trailer uses a pair of 4,400 lb axles. So in that case the replacement hub will be # 8-407-5UC3-EZ and the electric brake assemblies are part # K23-478-479. This is a 10" x2-1/4" brake assembly and a 6 lug hub. The hub uses a # L68149 inner bearing and a #LM67048 outer bearing. I recommend if possible pulling the bearings...

  • Replacement Brake Assemblies for 4400 lb Axles on 2013 Keystone Outback TT
From what I've been able to determine, your axle is a AL/KO 4400 lb axle, which would use a 10 x 2-1/4 inch brake assembly. Dexter offers a set of self adjusting brake assemblies, part # K23-478-479 that would be compatible, but I'd like you to measure the bolt hole spacing of your brake mounting flanges, just to be sure. If the top holes are 2-7/8 inches apart and the bottom are 3-1/4 inches apart as shown in the provided photo, then the # K23-478-479 would work for you.

  • Are There 10 Brakes for 5200-lbs Axles
I'll start this off by saying that typically 5200-lbs axles use 12" brake assemblies, so we're not going to have a 10" brake assembly that has a 5200-lbs capacity. The largest capacity 10" assembly as you've noticed is 4400-lbs, which you can use the Dexter # K23-478-479. These are self adjusting brakes that are basically a set and forget in terms of ever needing to adjust your brakes, so they're easy to use and require very little maintenance. • Could Going to Higher Rated Trailer Brake Setup on Axle Improve Braking Performance
I know it sounds tempting, but even if you could go with a higher rated brake setup on your axle the braking power would not be improved. The brakes would basically just end up harder to dial in as they would either feel like they are coming on too hard or too soft. The sweet spot would be really hard to find with your brake controller as the extra magnet sensitivity in the assemblies basically does not increase actual braking power. If you need new brake assemblies best option is a set...
